Smoking policy
Most residences have a no smoking policy, but there are some flats
allocated to students who smoke, so you’ll need to indicate this as
a preference on your application.

Other special requests

If you have any other special requests which may affect the kind
of accommodation, facilities or furniture you need, you’ll need to
provide as much information as possible on your application. For
example, tell us if you have any dietary requirements, if you are over
6ft 6in (1.98m) tall and need an extra long bed, or you don’t want
to be placed in the same hall as someone you know for personal
reasons.

We try to find the best mix of students for each residence; the
majority of our residences are mixed gender, but you can request
to live in an all male or all female flat.

Allocation of rooms
Although we can’t guarantee to give you your first choice of
residence, we’ll make every effort to find you somewhere suitable.

Make sure you also tell us what is most important to you about your
accommodation choice, for example en suite facilities, availability
of meals, organised social activities and budget. If you have any
special requests we’ll also try to take these into consideration.

The majority of students do get their first choice of residence and

we realise that you’ll be disappointed if you don’t, but we have a
fantastic range of accommodation and we’re sure you’ll have a
great experience wherever you live.

Set in spacious landscaped grounds, Oxley Residences comprises

two stone-built houses, Oxley House and Bardon Grange, where
most rooms have a wash basin and some of the larger standard
rooms have a double bed. There are also 12 modern, purpose-
built accommodation blocks, which are all en suite and have junior
double beds. Oxley House also has a study area with computers,
tables, chairs and comfy sofas.

Oxley has its own bar and is just a 20 minute walk from the shops,
restaurants, bars and cinema in Headingley, one of Leeds’ popular
student suburbs. A frequent bus service running until 3am links
Oxley to and from campus and the city centre.

Situated next door to the University’s outdoor sports facilities,

Sports Park Weetwood, and boasting its own small cardio-
vascular gym and fitness studio on site, Oxley Residences is ideal
for sports-minded students. But you don’t have to be a sports
enthusiast to enjoy living here; Oxley also has its own music
practice room and the tranquil, leafy surroundings are home to a
community food growing project, run by our students’ union, which
gives students the chance to grow their own food and learn more
about sustainable food production.

We’re really lucky with all the on-site facilities at Oxley, so

it doesn’t matter that we’re away from campus. We’ve got our own

gym and we’re right next to Sports Park Weetwood – where all the
sports teams play – so if you’re thinking about joining one of the
sports teams you’re bang next door!

The grounds are great for kickabouts and there’s loads of space,
so you can find a quiet spot to study or relax when it’s warm. All
the shops and bars in Headingley are literally on your doorstep and
there are plenty of buses to campus and the city centre.

One of our more affordable residences, Lupton is perfectly located

right in the heart of the popular student suburb of Headingley,
conveniently close to a great range of shops, cafés, restaurants
and bars. Headingley Carnegie Stadium is less than a 10 minute
walk away if you fancy watching Leeds Rhinos or live Test Match
cricket. The local supermarket is just around the corner from
Lupton, where you’ll also find regular bus services to and from
campus and the city, running until 3am.

Set in extensive grounds, the purpose-built Lupton Residences

is made up of 15 blocks, most with nine flats over three floors.
Lupton is a hive of activity and in the warmer months, you’ll often
find students gathering around the BBQ area and making the most
of the open grassed areas.

The accommodation is great and it’s really cheap, so you

get the best of both worlds at Lupton! You’re right in the centre of

Headingley and there’s just about everything you need. The bus
stop for campus is virtually on your doorstep or you can walk to the

North Hill Court is ideally located halfway between the University

campus and the popular student suburb of Headingley,
overlooking Meanwood Valley. This large Edwardian building is
divided up into 18 spacious flats, with most rooms classed as
larger than average in size and some with a balcony. Four students
share each flat, with the exception of the two loft flats, which are
each shared between six students.

North Hill Court is one of our quieter residences, ideal for studying,
but students who live here can use the common room at James
Baillie Park, the larger student residence just next door. It takes
less than 20 minutes to walk to campus, or there’s a frequent bus
service running until 3am to and from campus and the city centre.

I can honestly say that living at North Hill Court was a

great experience; the atmosphere was fantastic and everyone got

of the rooms are huge! I wouldn’t have chosen to live in any other
halls.

James Baillie Park, ideally located halfway between the University
campus and the popular student suburb of Headingley, benefit
from a great location for the city centre, as well as beautiful
surroundings. Situated just behind the residence is a nature
reserve with woodland walks down into the city centre.

Most rooms are en suite and some have a double bed. En suite
rooms are grouped into flats of four, five or six and they share a
kitchen and lounge area. Standard rooms are available where three
students share a bathroom and kitchen and there are also some
single en suite studios.

Out of the residences I visited, James Baillie was definitely

my favourite. It had a real homely feel; the layout of the flats mean

Devonshire Hall is the only student accommodation which offers

catered and self-catered options. Set in beautiful surroundings,
it comprises the Main Hall, an impressive historic building with
striking architecture, alongside converted Victorian mansion
houses and other new, purpose-built accommodation.

Some rooms have a junior double or double size bed and some of
the standard rooms have a wash basin. The foyer has a traditional
fireplace with comfy chairs, where you can relax with your friends
after a meal.

With a strong music tradition, Devonshire will be particularly

appealing if you’re interested in music or drama and, if you
want, you can get involved in a number of concerts and theatre
performances that are run throughout the year.

Close to James Baillie Park and North Hill Court, it’s halfway
between the University and the popular student suburb of
Headingley and campus is only a 10 minute walk away. Nearby
there is Woodhouse Ridge which is part of the Meanwood Valley
Trail, a seven mile waymarked footpath.

Devonshire is a great place for music lovers; not only has

it got its own orchestra, jazz band, choir and a capella group, you

and your friends can also gather together in the music room and
jam your own thing. A couple of my friends and I started a ukulele
band and we played some tunes in the Devonshire Christmas
concert, which was entirely organised by students; the concert
was amazing.

If you’re looking for style and convenience, Leodis is one of our

largest residences with over 700 students, offering modern, newly
refurbished rooms, all en suite with junior double beds.

This residence, run in partnership with The Mansion Group,

consists of nine accommodation blocks and students are typically
grouped six to a flat, sharing a large open-plan kitchen and living
space. There are four standard rooms also available that are
adapted for wheelchair users, which share a bathroom between
two.

Located just around the corner from Montague Burton, Leodis

is one of the closest residences to campus. It offers lots of great
places to socialise, including a common room with a large screen
TV and pool table, as well as its own outdoor picnic and BBQ area.

Leodis was always the accommodation that stood out
for me. I loved every minute of it and I’ve no regrets choosing
to live there.

I’m an international student and was worried at first about being

able to settle in a new country, but everyone was so welcoming
and friendly and I didn’t feel out of place at all. Leodis is more than
just a home; it’s like a big family with so many different cultures.

Amazingly close to the University, Montague Burton is located

only a very short walk away from campus and is one of our more
affordable residences. Like a small village, Montague has a strong
community feel and the outside communal areas, including the
large covered BBQ area, are usually full of students during the
summer.

Rooms in Montague are slightly larger than average and you’ll also
have your own wash basin. Flats are normally grouped into rooms
of five which share a bathroom and kitchen.

One of the best things about Monty is the location, as

the campus is literally only a five minute walk away! I loved the

communal living aspect; there was always something going on and
I met some really good friends through getting involved in all the
social events and different activities.

The outdoor BBQ area is a great place to chill in the summer and
gives the halls a real sociable atmosphere. I always felt really safe
at Monty and it felt like home straight away; I would definitely
recommend it!

A homely residence in a row of attractive Victorian town houses,

Ellerslie Global Residence is located right on campus, just across
from a public park, offering mainly standard rooms with shared
bathrooms and a number of en suite rooms.

Ellerslie offers a great opportunity for undergraduates, from the

UK and all over the world, to live together in a friendly and multi-
cultural environment. Around half of the residents are international
students, so you’ll benefit from a diverse social life and build a
global network of friends. You can even get involved in a number of
intercultural events held throughout the year, from film screenings
to swing dance classes, to share your own culture and learn about
others.

If you’re interested in practising different languages, the diversity of

students in Ellerslie also offers the possibility of language exchange
opportunities. One of the common rooms even has international
TV, so you can keep up to date with the latest international news,
sport and your favourite programmes from around the world.

The great thing about Ellerslie is that it’s small enough for
everyone to get to know each other and because you’re not in flats,
you can easily spend time with each other in the common room;
it’s not just a hall, it’s a family. I loved getting to know everyone; it
was so relaxed and the pool table and Wii were great ice breakers!
It was amazing meeting people from across the world, learning
about their cultures and teaching them about our culture.

Overlooking the open space and greenery of Woodhouse Moor,

where a lot of students gather in the summer months, Henry Price
is the only self-catered residence on campus, with easy access
to University facilities and only a short walk to the popular student
suburb of Hyde Park.

Most of the rooms are standard and share a bathroom, but you
only share with one other person. There are also a small number of
en suite rooms available.

There are 40 self-contained flats spread across five floors, each

with a large open kitchen, dining and living space which are
typically shared between eight or nine people, so there’s plenty of
opportunity to socialise.

The convenient location isn’t just a great way of saving

money on transport costs; it also allows you to play the odds on
how late you can get up and still make it to that morning lecture!
The proximity also makes it easier to plan other aspects of student
life around my studies, as the students’ union and The Edge sports
facility are just minutes away.

The rooms are a good size and come equipped with everything
you need. The kitchen facilities are really good too and are great
places to socialise with other students. I’ve also enjoyed meeting
international students, as food is an easy way to start learning
about other people’s cultures.

living there, so you’re sure to meet a lot of people. An ideal choice
for performing arts students, Charles Morris is located minutes
away from the University’s very own theatre, stage@leeds and next
door to the students’ union. If you love the idea of living near to the
city centre, as well as having the luxury of being able to get out of
bed and go straight to lectures without catching a bus or having far
to walk, this is the place for you.

Named after a former Vice-Chancellor, the residence comprises a

mix of traditional and newly-built accommodation. Storm Jameson

double beds, a safe and telephone; all kitchens have a TV and are
typically shared by around six students. There are also two smaller
refurbished annexes, Dobree and Whetton Houses and students
here are normally grouped 11 to a flat.

I moved from Singapore and was made to feel completely

at home by all the staff and students at Charles Morris; I never
once questioned my safety.

The accommodation was second to none; my room was modern

and contemporary but still felt really homely. The maintenance
team were really reliable and made sure everything was running
smoothly and everyone was happy. If I had to do it all over again,
Charles Morris would still be my number one place to be!

Situated right next to the students’ union and the Refectory,

Lyddon Hall is the University’s oldest residence and comprises a
large main hall and several beautiful Victorian houses.

The rooms are spacious and the furniture isn’t fixed, so you can
change it around to suit you; some rooms also have a double
bed. There are a small number of en suite rooms available, but the
majority of rooms are standard and share a bathroom, although
you may also have your own wash basin.

Lyddon is packed with great facilities, including a traditional, well-

stocked library. The grand piano and the quaint pictures on the
walls create a traditional feel and reflect the Victorian charm of the
residence.

Living in Lyddon has made my University experience
so far. Everything is on your doorstep so you can fully immerse
yourself in Uni life; the students’ union is right next door and you
don’t need to worry about getting up late and missing lectures, as
most schools are only a short walk away! Being in catered halls has
also made life a lot easier; the Refectory has been a life-saver and
it’s great to have a nice hot meal after a long day in lectures.

Although it’s one of the smaller halls, Lyddon is really lively and it’s
easy to meet people, so you soon feel at home. I’ve loved my time
at Lyddon and I’d honestly recommend it to anyone!

Central Village is a cluster of new buildings. It’s a perfect location

right on the University’s doorstep; only a few minutes’ walk to the
gym and pool on campus or the city centre in the other direction,
so there’s no need for a taxi home after a night out.

Each flat comprises five or six good-sized rooms, all en suite, which
are light, modern and have junior double or double size beds. Each
flat has a large open kitchen, dining and living space with comfy
seating and a TV, which is great for having a get together.

Single occupancy studio flats are also available, with en suite, fitted
kitchens and great lounge areas.

Living in Central Village was great; aside from the obvious

benefits of having our own bathrooms and a TV in the lounge, it’s

right next to the campus and the city centre – I brought a bike with
me when I moved to Leeds and I haven’t had to use it once!

The flats are like new, with modern features and appliances and
the staff are always friendly and willing to help, whatever the
problem might be. The on-site mini supermarket has also proved to
be very useful for those last minute essentials!

all with ensuite rooms and some with double beds, which are
organised into flats with four to eight students sharing the kitchen
facilities.

Sentinel Towers is one of the quieter student residences, but still

has a sociable atmosphere. The common room has a TV, pool
table, table tennis and comfy seating; ideal for relaxing after a
hard day studying. It’s only a short walk to campus or there’s a
bus service that runs from right outside the residence, taking
you to campus and back. There are a few shops nearby, ideal for
essentials and it’s very close to The Tannery residence.

I really enjoyed living at Sentinel Towers; it was a perfect

study environment, but also a great place to meet students from all
over the world and learn about completely different cultures.

The location is ideal as it’s only a 10 minute walk from campus

anything. I couldn’t have asked for nicer accommodation; it was

to the motorway network and Leeds Railway Station, giving you
easy access to visit home, or if you want to explore more of what
Leeds and Yorkshire have to offer during the weekends and
University holidays.

Offering en suite accommodation, The Tannery is situated just

to the west of campus, behind Sentinel Towers, making it ideal
for medical, dental and business students. All rooms have junior
double beds and kitchen facilities are typically shared between
five students and sometimes only three students.

I lived at the Tannery as a first year student and chose

to go back again for my final year. The location is close to the
city centre; ideal for shopping and nights out! There’s a mini
supermarket on site, so you don’t have to go far for any essentials,

road. If you don’t fancy walking to Uni, there’s a bus service that
runs from right outside the residence, taking you to campus and

of books to carry.

There’s a great sense of community at The Tannery; the common

In a great location, overlooking the River Aire and near to the Royal

living in en suite rooms, all of which have junior double beds.

Run in partnership with Liberty Living, this residence has recently

had a complete refurbishment and individual rooms are organised

own common room and gym on site and it’s just a short walk to
the city centre, ideally placed for everything the city has to offer

stunning views.

If you don’t fancy walking, regular buses to campus can be found

directly outside the residence and you’re within easy reach of all
local transport links, including Leeds Railway Station, if you want to
visit home.

Liberty Dock wasn’t my first choice of accommodation,

but it turned out to be a fantastic place. The location was an initial
worry, but it didn’t prove to be a problem at all. It’s a relaxing
distance from the University and only a short, but beautiful,
riverside walk to the city centre.

The area is lovely, the site is well looked after and my room was
an ideal student home with everything I could possibly need.
The facilities on site were brilliant and the staff were very
welcoming and always quick to help and resolve any problems;
Liberty Dock was an amazing place to live.
