AE231 Thermodynamics

Answer for Quiz 8 (November 24, 2014)

Quiz 7 (November 17, 2014)

Carbon dioxide enters a steady-state, steady-flow heat exchanger at 300 kPa, 15°C, and exits at
275 kPa and 1200°C. Changes in kinetic and potential energies are negligible. Calculate the
required heat transfer per kilogram of carbon dioxide flowing through the heat exchanger.
Assume that carbon dioxide has constant properties with CP=0.842 kJ/KgK.

In heat exchangers:
W12= 0, ∆(PE) = 0, ∆(KE) = 0

From the first law of thermodynamics for open systems:

Q12 = m(he − hi )
Q
q12 = 12 = he − hi = C p (Te − Ti ) = 0.842 (1200 − 15 ) = 997.77kJ / kg
