I. MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTS:

 2 ----- DC Supply
 1 ----- Oscilloscope
 2 ----- Digital Meter
 1 ----- Optical Tachometer
 2 ----- Lego Motor
 1 ----- 100 ohms Potentiometer

II. PROCEDURES.

Figure 1. Directly Coupled DC Generator

1. Obtain two (2) Lego Motors, DMM, Shaft to shaft connecting unit from LEGO, Optical Tachometer and
Oscilloscope
2. Connect Lego Motor A to the power supply
3. Ensure that your power supply is set to zero and turned off
4. Connect Lego Motor B rotor shaft to Lego Motor A shaft. You may use bricks to make a cradle that holds both
motors in place.
5. Connect your DMM to the Coil Terminals of Lego Motor B.
6. Connect your Oscilloscope to the Coil Terminals of Lego Motor B.

7. Turn on the Power Supply

8. Set the voltage input to 1v
9. Measure the angular speed of the shaft connecting both motors
10. Record the angular speed in RPM unit in table 1 under the respective voltage input to Motor A.
11. Measure the Voltage seen on the oscilloscope.
12. Record the Voltage output of the Lego Motor B and waveform at table 1.
13. Power Down your Circuit
14. Repeat Steps 8 to 13 but this time use 2v, 3v, 5v, 7v and 8v.
15. Obtain a 16 tooth gear and an 8 tooth gear for your DC motors.
16. Reconfigure the test mount such that Lego Motor A has the 16 Tooth Gear while Lego motor B has the 8 tooth
gear.
17. Repeat steps 8 to 15 place your data in table 1. But make sure to measure the RPM of your DC Generator Shaft
18. Once all data has been obtained plot the DC Saturation Curve of your Motor unit the data in Table 1.

19. Connect the circuit in Figure 3.

20. Try out the coil ensure that the rotation of the motor matches the direction of rotation of the DC generator in
case the voltage (v2) applied causes it to rotate.
21. Take the measurement for RPM at 5v applied Motor Voltage
22. Take the measurement of If and Vmotor
23. Record the RPM If and V motor output on Table 2.
24. Adjust the resistor to resistance indicated on Table 2.
25. Repeat Steps 23 to 25 for all resistance values.
26. Plot the Graph of Vmotor and If as Graph 2.
27. Determine K for RPM and Voltage Relationship in Table 1.
Determine the Saturation Current for the DC Generator used in the Experiment.

I. ANALYSIS and CONCLUSION

As the voltage goes up the motor A speed increases (RPM) and also the speed of the Motor B the
band width narrows as the voltage goes up with the ratio of 16:8 due to the gear of the motor.
Using the motor A it generates the motor B (As Generator) and it gives out voltage and ampere
depending on the RPM of the motor A.
