EPIC-is a long narrative poem

telling of the exploits of a
legendary hero to save his
country, race or community

 The hero of an epic is

imbued with idealistic
characteristics-courage,
wisdom, beauty, endurance,

chivalry, and sense of

justice.
 The hero’s legendary
adventures are full of

obstacles put up by
supernatural power.
 To overcome his obstacles,
the hero’s prowess has to be

aided by friendly
supernatural beings.
Love dawns on Lam-ang is
part of the Ilokano Epic that
tells the unusual man-child. It

is believe to the work of many

poets of several generations,
each generation altering it nd
adding new verses through
the years until it was finally

written down. Historical

records show that the story
was first recorded in 1889 by
a Spanish priest, but other

versions were written in the

following years.

In the town of Malbuan,

in the rich valley of the
Naguillian river, there
live a couple Juan
11

Panganiban and nis wife,

Namongan, they were
said to be the richest in
the Ilocos region, when

Namongan was well

along the road of
pregnancy, her husband
went off to he mountains
13

to fight the fierce Igorots,

the baby was born in his
absence.

Upon his birth, this baby

surprised everbody with
his abilitiy to speak. It
was he himself who ask
15

that he be given the

name Lam-ang.
Lam-ang grew so rapidly
that in nine months, he
16

had already the form and

size of a full –grown man.
Strong in muscle a big in
limbs, evoked fear and
17

respect in the
community.
It was only a few months
old when hew learned
18

about his father and

decided to look for him,
providing himself with
magic stones and
19

supernatural perts, he
when through hills and
forests, sometimes riding
the crest of the mountain
20

wind through the power

of the magic stones.
Finally in land of tattoed
and fierce Igorots, Lam-

ang came upon the

beheeded body of his
father. In mad desire for
justice, lam-ang Fought
22

the Igorots and

vanquished them all.
He rewturend home to a
great welcome but in
23

spite of the attention and

admiration showered on
him, Lam-ang was not
happy. He felt that
24

something in his life was

missing, One day.
