Young People Attitudes to Disability Integration

Background of the Study

People with disabilities in the Philippines continue to experience

considerable discrimination and social exclusion. The Philippine government

vowed their commitment to protecting the Persons with disabilities (PWDs)

and this is included in the Republic Act No. 7277 that states “Providing

rehabilitation, self-development, and self-reliance of disabled person and their

integration”. However, there remains limited evidence to facilitate

understanding of these issues, and barriers to the investigative process.

Global problems as to the understanding about integrating with PWDs

increases as the years go by. In an article dated 2015 from Ministry of

Education and Science in Russian Federation stated that if you are a child

living with a disability in Russia, there is a significant chance that you will

not receive a quality education or even any education at all. An alarming case

that should be addressed to the government that handles equal rights to be

educated or access to education. The chance of these PWDs to be

discriminated by their own peers would also increase.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, When Alexander Michael Bautista was a

freshman at the University of the Philippines Diliman last school year, his

challenge was not just adjusting to tough college classes and requirements.

Attending classes in different buildings on the 493-hectare campus also

presented difficulties to Bautista, a person with disability (PWD), Inquirer.net

(2017).
