Grammar: - Past Simple – regular/irregular verbs
- question words (who?, what?, when?, where?, why?, how long?, how much?,
how many?)
- TO BE - Past Tense (was/were)
Main focus: to talk about past events.

Objectives:
A) Cognitive objectives: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
1) underline some Past Simple verbal forms
2) speak about a past activity
3) recognize and properly use the verbs in past tense in their own statements

B) Affective objectives:
1) to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy
conversations between teacher and students
2) to make students confident in themselves when speaking a foreign language
Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing
Interaction: T- Ss, S-S, Ss-Ss, PW, GW, IW
Assumed knowledge: - I assume that students have already understood the meaning of past tense
of regular and irregular verbs and are eager to practise. They are expected to use various question
words and a large amount of verbs in their statements.

Anticipated problems: - Students might need further practice with the structure as it is new for them.
- if she thinks it is necessary, the teacher will offer the students guidance in solving certain exercises;
- some Ss might have problems when working in pairs;
- a few among the Ss may be given supplementary explanations in Romanian.

Assessment activity: the students will be assessed on class participation.


Teaching techniques: conversation, dialogue, exercise.
Methods of teaching: Communicative Approach
Teaching aids: worksheets, blackboard, coloured chalk, textbook.

Activity 1: Warmer
Aims:
o to create a pleasant atmosphere for learning
o to involve sudents by means of personalisation

Activity 2: Checking homework


Aim:
o to check understanding of previous lesson

T asks ss to read the texts in the textbook and ask questions about it. T-Ss 10’
Ss Ss write their questions and answers on the blackboard . Ss-T
Ss read and check their mistakes.

Activity 3: Presentation of new lesson


Aim:
o to talk about past events

T announces the students the title of the new lesson and tells them T-Ss 3’
what some information about her week-end. Then she asks them about
their week-end.

T asks the students to read ex 1b/101 and after that to practise using S–s
the words in the box. 5’
Ex. What did you do last week-end?
I went to the circus.

Activity 4: Reading
Aim:
o to identify past forms in a reading text
o to read for pleasure

Activity 5: Practise the Past Tense Simple


Aim:
o to identify past forms of regular and irregular verbs

T makes two lists on the blackboard and asks Ss to write regular and T-Ss 15’
irregular verbs.
T asks the SS to solve ex 3d/102, 3e/102.(they remember the Simple
Past- negative)

Activity 6:Assigning homework

Put the following irregular verbs in the past simple (interrogative, negative, affirmative)
