1.0 Purpose:

The purpose of this procedure is to have effective control of welding

consumables for timely availability as well as to meet quality
requirements of the weldment.

2.0 Scope:

The scope of this procedure covers estimation of welding consumables,

raising PR for procurement action, checking welding consumables at
stores on receipt, approval of welding consumables for issue and issue of
welding consumables to the fabrication department.

3.0 Reference:

 EN 13479: Welding Consumables- General Product standard for

filler metals and fluxes for fusion welding of metallic materials.

 EN 12074: Welding Consumables - Quality requirements for

manufacture, supply and distribution of consumables for welding
and allied process.

 EN ISO 544: Welding Consumables – Technical delivery conditions

for welding filler materials – Type of product, dimensions,
tolerances and markings.

 EN 14532-1: Welding Consumables – Test method and quality

requirements – Part- 1 Primary methods and conformity assessment
of consumables for steel, nickel and nickel alloys.
 EN 14532-2: Welding Consumables – Test method and quality
requirements – Part-2 Supplementary methods and conformity
assessment of consumables for steel, nickel and nickel alloys.

 EN 14532-3: Welding Consumables – Test methods and quality

requirements – Part -3 Conformity assessments of wire electrodes.
Wires and rods for welding of aluminum alloys.

4.0 Abbreviations and Terms:

GTAW: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

GMAW: Gas Metal Arc Welding

SMAW: Shielded Metal Arc Welding

MIN: Material Issue Note

PR: Purchase Requisition

PO: Purchase Order

TC: Test Certificate

5.0 Responsibility:

 Quality in charge is responsible for implementing this procedure.

 Quality department is responsible for maintaining this procedure

6.0 Methodology:

6.1 Estimation of welding consumables, PR raising & verification of TCs:

 Quality engineer estimates welding consumables on receipt of the job

scope, scope of welding automation and reconciliation of welding
consumables.

 After checking the existing stock level, Quality Engineer raises PR for
meeting additional requirements, if any.

 After PR approval, Quality engineer approaches purchase department

with reference to approved PR, approval manufactures for welding
electrodes, filler wires and technical supply condition of welding
electrodes, filler wires to facilitate purchase in time. Purchase group is
raising PO accordingly.

 After receipt of welding consumables at stores, store verifies item,

quantity and co relates with PO. Also check EN Specification, brand
name, manufacture, sizes, batch/Lot number and condition of welding
consumable is checked by quality engineer at store in line with TC and
technical supply conditions.

 Wherever result does not comply with the requirements, the same is
rejected immediately and highlighted to purchase group. The supply
having discrepancy is kept under quarantine and such welding
consumables are not issued.

6.2 Storage of Welding Consumables:

 Welding consumables must be stored in their original packing in a dry

place adequately protected from the effects of weather and in
accordance with the manufacture’s recommendations.

 Welding consumables will be stored as per classification, size, batch

number and brand name with proper identification tags to facilitate
retrieval.

 Filler Wire used must be properly stored to avoid damage and rust.
They should be kept in their original bundle or package.

6.3 Issue of welding consumables from Store:

 Material issue request is prepared by welder for issuing the quantity.

 Based on the material issue approved request, store issues the welding
consumables.

7.0 Discrepancy Handling:

 Any non conformance related to welding consumables at work shop is

reported to quality engineer for necessary action.
