This project focuses in on a world issue. The topic I chose is the treatment and rights of
middle eastern women. It’s about their treatment compared to men and why women are
restricted in certain situations. Middle Eastern women should have the same amount of rights
and respect that women in the United States have gained and that is why I am focusing on it. In
almost all scenarios, men are superior and some women find themselves in bad situations such
as poverty and abusive relationships. This issue needs to be resolved and women should have
a voice, as well as a well paying job, education and respect. The objective of this project is to
raise awareness and provide support to the women who are abused and denied their rights.
Women’s Rights in the Middle East has gone unheard of and not worthy enough of help.
Women are being abused and limited in their lives. The reason this is not solved is because we
have many people, mostly men, who don’t care that they’re undermining women because they
want to feel powerful. Others don’t hear anything of it because it is not something spoken of.
The more news and stories of these events means there will be a solution, but right now, we
don’t have one. Everyone should join in to support women’s rights around the globe. Women
need to stand up for themselves and educate everyone on what is right. Men included need to
join the movement because they are a big problem in the struggle for women’s rights. Men
should not discriminate and undermine women because they are different. Gender equality is a
big issue that should be discussed and resolved among all.
One thing that many people have done already is donate. Many try to make a donation
to a worthy organization that'll turn that money around to help people. For example, Women for
Afghan Women is an organization that helps women in Afghanistan find shelter. Also, Médecins
Sans Frontières, an international health organization, provides healthcare to females whether
they have conflict or not. Donations to charitable organization can always help make a
difference. Women in the Middle East and North Africa continue to suffer from inequality in
human rights. Many women are involved in organizations that fights for what they believe in, in
this case, it’s women’s rights. For example, the Egyptian Center For Women’s Rights has been
around since 1996 and has been trying to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.
Also, KAFA is an organization that is trying to form society into one that is free of social,
economic and legal structures that discriminate against women. The Dubai Foundation for
Women and Children, founded in 2007, protects domestic abuse victims by providing them with
safe houses and rehabilitation services. Getting involved in these organizations will only
increase the probability of change. Other activism organizations includes The Global Fund For
Women. The Global Fund for Women has provided nearly $10 million in vital core support to
384 women-led groups in 14 countries throughout the MENA. Their purpose is to build
strategies, including efforts to prioritize support to women, young women, and those living in
conflict and war. They campaign for no violence, economic and political power, and sexual and
reproductive health and rights. Those are the most critical steps to gaining more women’s rights.
Unfortunately, those methods and actions can only work so much. A select amount of people
make great donations to organizations, but that will only go so far. There are so many great
organizations that help support women, but none have received full women’s rights for the
MENA region. Although these organizations have done so much hard work, the government will
be the deciding factor and that is who, we as women need to influence and educate. There has
not been other documented help that has made a difference.
