There are many aspects that can be included into the culture. There is traditional culture
such as traditional dance, traditional music instrumen, traditional songs, etc. Not only
traditional culture but culture also take a look at our habit, our behavior, even our mind belongs
to the culture itself. Then, that culture creates a new culture that affected by advancing and
developing world situation especially from technology aspect.

For example can be seen from the application of firewood exchanges to kerosene and
changes to LPG (liquified petroleum gas). That transformation progressing day by day
automatically. Does virtual culture erode or enhance our traditional culture? I think
“transformation” is needed but with that transformation we also have to accept the good and
the bad impact. We do not just accept that transformation, we also need to filter it. According
to me, the good impact the can be obtained from virtual culture are:

1. Everything is instant.
2. We get the information more easier about what is happening in this world by the modern
technology.
3. Help the students to look for more material in their school or college.
4. We can expand our relations by using social media.
5. Distance does not prevent the relation between child and parents. By using the
handphone. For example; the parents are in Toraja, and the child is in Salatiga. They
can still in communication each other.

Besides having the good impact, we also can find the bad impact, there are:
1. Because everything is instant, most of young generation likes to live in spoiled life.
2. The use of language for teenagers has been changed. They’d prefer to use “bahasa
gaul”. Mix between indonesian and english language when they are speaking, such us;
 btw (by the way)
 gaje (ga jelas)
 kepo (want to know other person’s affairs)
 otw (on the way)
3. Some teenagers want to be looked more popular by uploading their photos in media
social (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media) to get more likers and
comments.
4. Life style of indonesian young generation prefer to western lifestyle. Starting from how
they dress, how they talk to each other, etc.
5. The young generation mostly like western songs, korea songs than traditional song of
Indonesian. It is danger when they listen to that music without knowing the real
meaning of that songs (western and korea songs)

In my opinion, virtual culture is good to help the development of our tradisional culture if
we look from the spread of information via technology especially internet. We can explore our
traditional culture via internet access. From internet we can see other cultures, we can learn
other cultures from different tribe in indonesia even from other countries. We can exchanging
information about our traditional culture with others.

But, we can deny that in this era, the influences of virtual culture is very felt. Starting from
the habit and behavior. These (habit and behavior) look like people are free to do what they
want, they are careless with their environment where they are. This condition needs more
attention from they who want to use this virtual culture from that “positive” side.

That is all from me. Thank you
