decimals.

MA.4.2.b Represent equivalent fractions
MA.4.2.c Identify the division statement that represents a fraction.
MA.4.5.b Add and subtract fractions having like and unlike denominators that are limited to 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12,
and simplify the resulting fractions, using common multiples and factors

Procedure/Activites
Warm Up Question:
• What is the answer to 5/6 - 1/2 in it's simplest form
Mini Lesson:
• Do a quick review of each of the five fraction skills they need to understand for the unit test
◦ Adding Fractions - 2/4 + 1/8
◦ Subtracting Fractions - 2/3 - 3/6
◦ Ordering Fractions - Which is bigger, 3/10 or 2/5?
◦ Simplifying Fractions - 5/6 + 2/8 in its simplest form
◦ Finding Equivalent Fractions - Which of these are equivalent? 2/4 and 6/12 OR 2/5 and 5/10
Review Stations: Have students split into 5 groups/each group gets about 10 min in each station
• Adding
◦ Hoop It Up Folder Game
◦ Students will be in teams playing the game; one team will be answering the questions while the other checks their
work, and then the teams will switch
• Subtracting
◦ Tropical Island Folder Game
◦ Students will be in teams and compete against each other in this game
• Ordering
◦ Jenga Game
◦ Students will have task cards to go along with the Jenga game. When they get a piece out of the tower, they will
answer the question that correlates to the number on the Jenga piece.
◦ 2 comparing fractions task card attachments
• Simplifying
◦ Task Cards (attached)
◦ Students will answer as many task card questions as they are able in the amount of time they are at the station
• Equivalent
◦ Save the Town Folder Game
◦ Students will take turns choosing a card and putting it in the right place on the board. Once the board is full,
students will check their work. Students will shuffle the cards and play until time is up.
Exit Ticket Question
• Solve these two problems with the answer in simplest form, and then say which answer is bigger than the other

If students finish early in their stations or if stations finish earlier than planned and there is extra time at the end of class,
