Intro:
I've decided to put this guide together because there are numerous old threads and
outdated
information floating around regarding the cultivation of the sclerotia producing Psilocybes.
There are however some really great threads too, like the Easier than Cubes! or the
Sclerotia FAQ.
Both very good reads, highly recommended
I'll try to cover the most popular and readily available species:

Loc: 64º08'00"N
21º56'00"W Psilocybe mexicana/A
Psilocybe tampanensis/Pollock
Psilocybe mexicana/Jalisco
I have worked mainly with these four stone producers for the last year.
Section Mexicanae is my absolute favorite from the Psilocybe genus.
As you probably already know these species have the ability to produce
sclerotia (stones) invitro and fruit bodies as well.
Most people cultivate them for stones only but hopefully after reading this
thread they'll change their mind and give it a go at fruiting 'em too.
They aren't much harder to fruit than P. cubensis just require a thin casing layer
and some extra TLC.
Let's get started!
I will not go into details with the BRF, WBS and RGS preparation,
because these three methods are truly inferior to a perfectly prepped rye berries substrate.
Here's a short version of those three.
BRF Preparation:
BRF cakes preparation is the regular formula (1/1/2 - BRF/water/verm)
but instead of 100% water use a 50% coffee/50% water solution.
Steam sterilize for 90 minutes or PC for 60 minutes @15psi.
WBS Preparation :
I hate WBS because it's messy and pretty difficult to clean the millet
away from the sclerotia.
Use it however if for some reason rye or RGS is not available.
You can also prepare it at the same way like the rye berries below.
Filling the jars and fit them with lid & foil
If you are a bit advanced and make LCs for you cubensis, these species will
do great in a DME (Dried Malt Extract) and DEX (Dextrose) LC.
Use your favorite recipe.
My preferred one is 1 tsp Malt Extract and 1/8 cup of Dextrose per quart.
The best and most advanced method however is to start your spores on agar.
Very often (especially with spore and agar wedge inoculation) sclerotia will
form before full colonization of the substrate. This is perfectly normal.
If you inoculate with LC, the mycelium usually just rips through the substrate
and stones will form after 100% colonization.
Either way you should see stones soon.
When I want to expand and plan on doing G2G transfers, the best method IME
is to start with LC.
I use 3-4cc per jar and it's always done within a week.
Stones are not forming yet or if so, they are very tiny.
Just as usual, break up your colonized grain by shaking your jar,
and transfer a small amount into new sterilized substrate jars.
However if you have a fair amount of LC, I'd rather go that way
instead of G2G.
Clean your stones with a brush and store them fresh in paper bags in the fridge
for weeks or dehydrate and store them for months.
So now you have that leftover sub/very small stones mixture, ready to fruit.
Fruiting Procedures:
Please note that the above step is not necessary but IME it will give you a better
flush/pinset.
Now that the cakes are dry you can go ahead and dunk them for 24 hours.
Put them back in the jars and case/fruit in the same manner as with grains (described
above).
Chop up some wheat straw and submerge it in water for a couple of hours.
Hydrate some coir, and get the vermiculite & gypsum ready.
I don't measure anything exactly just eyeball it.
It's not that important, just be somewhere in the ballpark of the above mentioned ratio...
Now mix your dry ingredients (manure/verm/gypsum) then mix in coir and straw.
Hydrate the sub to field capacity and fill into gusseted spawn bags.
I fill the bags with 2-4 quarts of substrate.
Fill your PC with the bags, and PC them for 120 minutes @15psi.
When the bags are cool I open them in the sterile laminar airflow and
inoculate the bulk with 20-60cc of LC.
Inflate it with the sterile air and tie them up.
When fully colonized, cut the top of the bag just above the substrate level.
Case it thin with your favorite casing layer and fruit it.
Cut the caps off the stipe as close as you can and place cap onto
alcohol sanitized heavy duty aluminum foil.
Do this in your glovebox or front of your flowhood.

Stonesun, can I ask about your LC technique, why the dextrose on top of the DME,whats
the reasoning behind this? do you start from agar wedges from initial plate or do a few
transfers and pick a healthy looking piece? I been getting a lot of floaters in my LC's and
not much success. Do u use a stir plate and if so, how long u stir in a 24 hour period?

The combination of malt extract and dextrose had been the most succesful method in
the history of sugar based LCs. LME by itself would give you poor results and lots of
floaters.

I suspect from your first question that you use LME only in your LCs.
LME tends to form tiny clumps when introduce it to boiling water.
These clumps are sediment caused by the caramelization of the sugar.
Reduce the LME, add dextrose and you'll get a much cleaner/better LC.
I've used to filter mine but don't bother with it anymore, as I see
no difference in performance.

I do both. Depends what I try to achieve.
And I always start on agar then wedge to LC or straight to grain jar.
I do use a stir plate.
When (very seldom) inoculate my LC with spores, I wait a week to let them germinate
then stir it constantly for a few days on ~200RPM.
If inoculate with LC or agar wedge I stir it right after inoculation 24/7
till I got a thick slurry at the same speed.
Hope it helps.

The inoculant (agar wedge, spore syringe, LC or GLC) has no effect on the yield.
Unless of course it's an isolate.

I cloned Sclerotia tissue. I got the truffle from my local smartshop. I has been colonized for
about a week now and I am not seeing any truffles forming. How long should I wait before
worrying?
The mycelium is healthy white.

Stonesun, could you possibly update your tek with a little bit more detail about your casing
technique?
I have some RGS jars of Ps. gallindoi/ATL#7 that are a few months old, with well-
developed sclerotia, but I'm interested in fruiting one or two of those jars for prints.
Another tek here describes casing the straight grain spawn. Is it better to spawn to coir or

As I understand it, the RGS should be cased with ~1/4" 50/50 peat/verm, with lime to get
the pH up to ~8. Should I spawn to a 50/50 coir/verm first, let colonize, and then case
immediately before fruiting? Or should the mycelium be allowed to break the casing layer
before fruiting? Or else should I spawn and case at the same time a la cased cubes, and
allow to break the casing layer before fruiting? One sees so much different information
around but you seem to be one of the experts at getting these to fruit.
I stupidly tried spawning to coir/verm without casing, like cubes, and got no pinning activity,

Stonesun has said in this thread and told me personally that he doesn't let his galindoi
casings sit at all and begins to fruit them immediately, I personally would advise spawning
to a bulk sub instead of just fruiting cased grains

on Neuropa sorry but you must be doing something wrong, or you are slightly confused.. thats not how
Last seen: 1 casings are traditionally applied.. The bulk sub is allowed to colonize, and then it is cased,
month, 8 days it is up to the individual whether they allow the mycelium to break through or not, In terms
of cubes
However in both cases colonization of the casing is not recommended and it defeats its
purpose, which is to provide a humid micro climate close to the surface of the mycelium
with good airflow , which is the purpose of a casing no matter the species, colonization
limits the airflow of the casing layer
I personally have experience with spawning this species to straight verm and it gave
decent results, more nutrients and available moisture by means of a bulk sub can only
help the colony of mycelium so I would suggest spawning to bulk sub
in summary , casing is applied after colonization directly before fruiting, and not allowed to
colonize at all,

Hey stonesun. Hows it going? My substrate was rye berries. I simply loaded the rye
berries into the jars with the correct amount of water and sterilized for 1 hour. I also did a
few jars using RogerRabbit's rye prep tek. I found that the jars I had prepared by simply
putting the rye grain and water into jars actually colonized much faster than the ones using
the RR method. I attribute this to the fact that the grains are softer and more puffed up

I'm almost certain agar would be a better place to start too... However, in the abscence

that it's a waste of time...??

Not so.
They are actually VERY forgiving.
I've harvested sclerotia with my bare hands and
separated the colonized rye.
Threw the grains in a cereal cup (didn't even washed it out), cased
with 50/50+ and it produced just fine without any contamination.
This being said I will never recommend the "Neglect Tek" to anyone!

All the LC's turned out great (except one which went a little cloudy...), I think it's a great
way to grow this strain as you can be fairly genorous with LC and get them going fast. I
wondered if the sclerotia would out-perform the grains so did a little experiment.
I tried half the LC jars with colonised grains and the other half with actual sclerotia (10 jars
total, 5 of each). There was no noticable difference between the two. I just tranferred with

Last seen: 15 Stonesun I was being lazy and didn't re-read your OP, maybe you could add a note about
days, 7 hours sclerotia LCs? I'm fairly sure even a semi-fresh stone (properly cleaned) would produce
viable tissue from it's centre. I imagine some folks can get stones but not colonised grain,
say from a vendor...
I kinda feel like a douche asking you to add anything to this awesome thread.

Good point ego, but do you reckon it would be better technique (perhaps less
contamination-prone?) to break the stone open with your fingers, then take a small tissue
sample from inside it? Like we do with fruitbodies?

I think that in the instance of say ordering fresh-ish stones online, and making an LC from

internal tissue sounds feasible to me, I could be wrong.

Take a fully hydrated stone, dip in h2o2, place in new ziploc and close it. In a few days you
will see new myc growing from the stone. Transfer to agar or whatever and you are good-
to-go.

Post your results and let us know. I think I'd still prefer going straight to LC unless you
wanna go to agar first. Even in that instance maybe a straight-forward tissue>agar would
be preferable, the fewer transfers the fewer contams IME. I think most agar plates would
provide sufficient moisture to hydrate a small stone.
I also think stone soaked in H2O2 then dropped straight into LC would be fine to hydrate it,

Welp! It took about a month for growth to show, but here it is!
The stone was harvested in May of 2010, dehydrated, and placed in a desiccant chamber.
Then stored in glass and refrigerated until last month. So we now can see that sclerotia
are excellent lifepods and are capable of coming back to life.

Mexicana (A). i appreciate all the fancy teks, but personally, i am not into mass-production
or another time-consuming hobby. i just like to grow once every few years for personal
enjoyment, and i don't use a pressure cooker, nor do i have the space for one (i live very
minimally in a very little home with very little space). i have done PF tek successfully in my
one and only 1.5L stainless pot with a glass dish cover using 1/2 pint jars. my personal
interest is to know if anyone else has tried just plain white/brown rice (w/water of course) in
a 1/2 pint jar, no pressure cooker, and then injecting some Karo LC into it to grow
sclerotia. or, why this would definitely be a bad idea.
i'd like to see bare-bones poor-man simplest possible primitive sclerotia tek - that works
consistently, of course

PF Tek works great for sclerotia! Shoot up some jars and put them away for later.

Last seen: 4 years, my thinking is this:
5 months
i have seen instructions that say "75ml of whole white rice + 100ml of water": but this is for
white rice (1:1.5 rice:water ratio), brown rice seems to be 1:2.25, rice:water. i think you
want the grains cooked to "perfection", not too dry, not overly wet or overly cooked, ie, as
plump and fluffy as possible without bursting and sticky. so, i would think package
directions would be the way to go.
--
1/2 pint jar with: 60ml whole brown rice, 135ml water,
with a tiny hole in the lid covered with electrical tape.
the jar is then covered with aluminum foil and placed into
a 1.5L stainless pot with a glass plate cover, with 2 inches
of bath water, then at the lowest heat possible on a gas stove
(flame barely alive), it will boil gently in several minutes,
and according to directions, brown rice should be done in
about 30 minutes (white rice, about 20min), and it should be
sterile too. probably a good idea to make it a few times
until the method is done well, before inoculation.
EDIT: alternatively, this looks like a better method, ie, cooking rice first, then sterilizing it
with a layer of vermiculite on top ... http://forums.mycotopia.net/rice-teks-whole-
grain/10558-whole-rice-substrate-verm-cased.html
--
ps. i haven't come across this, but not having a fancy glove box or anything, in the past i
just ran an ozone machine. after that, i simply used a little 4W UVC light in the operating
area (should wear some kind of glasses if you do that). i don't know the facts on how well
they sterilize the surrounding air, but i never had contaminants in 20+ LCs/PF-teks, doing
all transfers in open air with no special sanitizing (other than flaming a needle), never
using anything more than 1/2 pint mason jars, electrical tape, and aluminum foil sterilized
in a little pot with glass plate cover. either i was lucky, or lived in an unusually clean home,
or Ozone/UVC lighting does a really good job of sterilizing a work area in open air. of
course, i always made sure to have freshly cleaned hands.
as a test, i did sterilize 1/2 pint of white rice 3 months ago as stated above, and let it sit in
a cabinet without any innoculations, and to this day, there is no contaminants growing in it.
i would hope that 1/2 pint jar would produce 1 dose of sclerotia.

Last seen: 4 years, not to get off topic, but UVC has no penetration power at all, plus it creates ozone, and
5 months
much less than 1mm of almost any material will block it (even a few feet of air, depending
on the lights power), and it can't penetrate skin deeply enough to cause any bad cancer -
but it can cause cataracts (as in mountain climbers). UVC does not alter DNA in the same
way as UVB (which has greater penetration power, and can cause cancer), and the
damage UVC causes to DNA has not been shown to be cancer causing in studies (the
body either repairs the DNA well, or the cell dies). though i did read one bad report about
it causing cancer once in nude mice which have very thin skin, and they were subjected to
UVC in an intense and brutal fashion. we should aim for the truth - for example, i was
flustered the other day to see the "organic health nut crowd" say that Propylene Glycol
was a big evil and carcinogen in many foods and products including "aircraft de-icing &
anti-freeze!!!" - when it is about as safe and non-toxic as water. i wanted to reply "water is
chemical used in toilets and sewage treatment! and you drink it! yuck!"

about 1-3 drops....but you can't. As little as 0.5 cc ought to work.
Do not shake these after inoculation! Do not even jostle them about.
You will want the spores to be in the same area so that they can mate

with stone producers and even told it was not as good as just casing by a couple Tc's.

why not proceed with normal technique and use the stones / possible fruits later to

Never shake sclerotia jars IME. The myc doesn't recover as healthy and stone production
is stalled/slowed.

you take a sterile syringe and suck up a little of a new liquid culture, wipe a stone with iso,
Last seen: 1 year,
5 months stick the syringe through the stone and back out. and inject this back into your liquid
culture jar, the liquid in the syringe helps push out the piece of stone.
I read this on a another thread on here and to me that would seem the most sterile way of
working as you would never have to open the liquid culture jar.

Interesting idea, I can envision the syringe getting blocked though and you wouldn't be
able to flame the needle..
I use flamed/alcohol'd fine tweezers to move grains/stones to LC jars, I think it's the
quickest way with least air exposure. I imagine it would take a minute or 2 to get your core
sample extracted. Open air =

Just wanted to add a little note about the benefit of patience when fruiting Mex A (I assume
most sclerotia species are similar... correct me if I'm wrong, SS).

So basically my message is: hang in there and give the little suckers time, you may be

I'm just using a SGFC, with a little extra fanning/misting each day. Can't wait to harvest,
gonna try a stones+Mex A combo, hope they will compliment each other nicely.

I'd agree that myc looks too thick and cotton-y for sclerotia strains, though my only
experience is with Mex A... Often times with LC I've had stones forming at 50%ish
colonization.. Got my original syringe from MRCA too, it worked fine..

compared to P. Cubensis/P. Sem?
I'm thinking of trying some out this weekend and not sure how many to eat or not eat..
Can't really find a definitive answer with the search engine, though I seem to recall reading
somewhere they were slightly more potent gram for gram than cubes.. Any thoughts?

Ok I have made a SGFC and a few casings, just got my first few pins so hopefully a
species I.D will be possible.
Ive made a thread with pictures that I will update if and when I can get some mature

I have had Mex-A fruits as potent as Pans but the next time I tried them it took 6g(dry fruit
bodies) to get to lvl3 . So after many doses with these I say less than cubes but
sometimes with fresh you will get more than you expect.
Another note I have NEVER hit a lvl5 trip with any stone producer and I have taken
enough stones and fruit bodies. So I wouldn't worry about going over board with these.

Welcome to the Shroomery! Yes, spore prints are active. Here is a link to some must see
videos for noobs. One of the videos shows you how to make a spore syringe from a spore
print. I am pretty sure that anyone of the sponsors would send you a spore print in
Australia. Good luck!

You should also have no troubles purchasing a syringe as it's the same deal as a print.
Spores in water. Also there are plenty of teks here to make syringes from prints, but here
is the quick and dirty way.
1. Sterilize syringe, needle, shot glass, etc
2. Put Needle, syringe, shot glass, distilled water, print in glove box

days, 7 hours So it took me a fewweeks to find the time but I now have some 1st hand info on the
strength of Mex A fruits.
I took 1.4g, 12 large dried fruits. They are definitely stronger than cubes, though not quite
as strong as Pan. Cyans/Tropicalis. I would equate the 1.4g to around 2.-5-3g of Cubensis.
The overall high/effect was very similar to the stones with the addition of far more
pronounced and bright visuals.
The come up was fairly mellow and presented itself with uplifting body high and general
euphoria. Found a definite drop off in potency at exactly the 2 hour mark, I put this down to
the smaller size of the fruits and presumably an increased digestion rate compared with
larger cubes.
Taste of fruits was similar to cubes though not as pronounced, easy to eat.
They seemed less introspective and more bouncy than cubes, CEV were more fractals
than full on shifting scenes or real images. Still fun to watch and drift with. OEV's were less
strong than CEV, generally just gentle flowing of surroundings accompanied by very
enhanced neon/bright colours.
I will probably move up to 2.5-3g next time, in another few weeks, I can't trip too often
anymore.

I am a bit confused about the casing. Perhaps someone can help. I have a nearly
colonized bulk substrate of Coir/Verm/Gypsum the species is P. Mexicana/Jalisco. Do I
add the casing layer when I introduce into fruiting conditions? Or is that casing layer
supposed to be colonized?

Sometimes I wait a couple of days, sometimes I move to fruiting conditions right after
casing (both for cubes and sclerotia). I didn't notice any difference.

I'm still experiencing failures with ATL#7, wherein I get small pinsets that fail, then after a
dunk I get some nice heavy pinsets, but they also fail. I've gotten so close to having them
reach maturity (2-3 inches tall, caps starting to open) but never had one fully mature. It's
frustrating. I'm now trying a bit less FAE, and more light. I've also just fruited colonized
rye grains of these for the first time, instead of RGS.
My question: when I spawn cubes to coir, I give the top coir covering a good misting before
I put it away to colonize. I've been doing the same when I first case my ATLs and put them
Registered: into fruiting. From reading your guide, SS, you don't mention doing that. It seems certain
11/25/09 to me that misting the fruits, once they've broken the casing, is a no-no; but what about
Posts: 2,394
mising the casing layer before that?
These suckers seem pretty thirsty, in that my really good pinsets seem to come after a
dunk. So, I'm confused about whether to mist.

Well, andy it's kinda the same debate with Panaeolus species.
Some say misting is a no-no (after pinning), some swear by it.
I've done it both ways - both ways succeeded.
I've ALWAYS mist the casing layer prior to pinning, and
after I see pins, well it's a matter of how I feel about it.
In this lates mono-grow I did not mist at all after pinning (5th day without).
They seem to do just fine!

I've been misting my Mex A. fruits for weeks, they are still flushing nicely. They are in a
SGFC and I give it a good mist most days after removing the trays. I'll then check the
trays, touch the casing and if it's not soft on top, they get a couple seconds from a
pressure mister, doesn't seem to be hurting them at all.

hours, 48 minutes Yes, you case it when your bulk is fully colonized.
Introduce fruiting right after that.
So I peeked into my mono today and say several pins ranging from 1/4 inch to an inch. It
was still in colonization. Should I still case it? Will it destroy the pins? What should I do?

Casing before 100% colonisation seems to lead to contams 100% of the time IME.
I would probably let them grow and pick them. Case when sub has done it's thing. Never
done them in a mono though, only trays.

*not sure if it is possible to do small grain jar straight from spores, was trying to skip the

Those are my current ideas, I'm also unsure about if it would be ok to crumble fully

3 months later harvested a greater quantity of stones from the spent substrate.
I had less success with my quart jars (no stones in jar, but seem to be fruiting ok!), the
grains showed less vigorous growth and appeared very dry. I have been using 2 x 1/4inch
holes which i think are too much for my very dry airing cupboard. The pint jar had 2 x
1/8inch, and of course doubling the diameter is *quadrupling* the area.

I've only eaten stones and fruits from Mex A, I would definitely agree that the trip is Sativa-
like from the fruits, while the stones would compare more to really clean, mild MDMA IMO.
I have eaten other stones, but only bought from stores, they used to be widely available in
the UK, and I've had them on a couple of visits to Amsterdam/Netherlands, they were just
sold as "Philosophers Stones" though, so I couldn't say what 'strain' they would have been.
Definitely had different qualities to the Mex A I grew though, but it's hard to tell what is

Stones certainly have a different feel to fruits of any kind though, they tend to be more
easy to handle, I have friends who adore stones, but would never eat mushrooms again.
I think a lot of it has to do with the consistency of stones, the more solid structure allows
for a slower, more mild come up I think, whereas fruits, especially with them being so small
are digested and effective very rapidly by comparison.

With enough verm even maple syrup would make a useful sub, I suppose.
Really, if you want spawn, then you want a grain with hull intact.
If you want PF-Tek cakes, then most any flour can make a workable,
if not as beneficial, substitute.

That gave me an awesome idea. Since I've already spent a pretty penny gathering all
these materials, anyway, I will spawn on a few different substrates to test which one works
best for me. This would also allow me to use all my spores at the same time without
having them fruit simultaneously. I shall do a very detailed write up soon after

just made tea out of the bag and the trip is real nice. But anyway, is this common?

strain from the initial syringe?

Did you dry the sclerotia before slicing and transferring it to a LC?

Yeah I dried them first thinking they would just rehydrate in the LC. Was this not good to
do? I read someone dried a mushroom and then cloned it via an LC so I figured it would
work with sclerotia.

I've read through this VERY excellent thread (and nice book, thank you Stonesun), I know
regarding Galindoi we have referred to ATL#7 many times. Anyone have any experience
on "Psilocybe galindoi (galindii) var. Georgia : Truffle King(TM) " ? I would appreciate your
comparison of it to ATL#7. Thanks!

They're the same. ATL#7 is part of the variety name, and it's pretty much the only one,
certainly the only common/widespread one. Galindoi is the species so might as well call it
as it is.

Swim wanted to mention that ihho spore syringes of Galindoi have a great shelf life. They
were still active under the microscope even though they were hydrated over a year ago.
Also, they do seem incredibly resistant to contams. We read the part about "Neglect Tek"
and laughed, and thought we would say that we also do not recommend the "Old Age
Tek". This may not even be helpful since most examples of Galindoi are in print , not

How many "generations" can you g2g without running into problems?
Is it necessary to transfer sectors to try to find an isolate or can you wait for sclerotia to
form, then isolate? How long does it take for sclerotia to appear on agar, and do all
sectors eventually form them or just the good ones?

Posts: 5,444 It's not really about generations, but more as to
Loc: 64º08'00"N how much are you expanding the mycelium and how rapidly.
21º56'00"W Generally when I g2g, I expand rapidly (ie. right after 100%) about 1:5.
You could easily do over 3000 jars before any "problems", assuming you'd
do 5 transfers.
I rarely start isolation from spore inoculated plates.
Fruit, clone, isolate is my preferred procedure.
In this case, if you're going for sclerotia production however you can
definitely start with spores, wait for sclerotia to form and clone/isolate from that.
As for how long will it take, weeks to months

As far as my question on how many generations can you g2g, what I was getting at is
once you find a good isolate, can you g2g forever as long as you do it quickly, i.e. before
stones form? It's just simpler to continue to g2g without having to go back to agar if that is

A week is not nearly long enough to wait for even colonization to complete.
People will let stones develop for as much as six months or longer.
Good luck,

I mean like, a week after the quart is fully colonized, should I give up? Were talking MS
here.
Can you rephrase the sentence: You can always g2g a fully colonized sub, I really don't
know what you mean here? G2G means grain to grain, like quart jar to quart jar, are you
referring to a substrate? Not sure how that ties in, thanks for the reply this is really
important to me.

So essentially, if you spawn to bulk at ~ EXACTLY 100% colonization; when there are
no/small/minimal amount of sclerotia, you've had better/more prolific fruiting?

So (by the way, awesome write up) in a nut shell, after you harvest the stones, you can
throw the remaining grains in your trays or fill the bottom of your monotub up and case it (if
so how deep would you fill your tub)? Or you can spawn it to a bulk sub (CVG or
manure)? Just add a 1/4 casing to whichever method you do and bring to fruiting
immediately after casing? Thanks for reading 5 for you buddy.

Yes, you should spawn to bulk. Cased grains with sclerotia will produce but poorly. You will
ultimately want to spawn to bulk and case. Love stone producers!!

Put some spores on agar last week so hopefully put in a LC soon. I may do a a jar too for
G2G too. With the length of time needed to produce clean procedure has never been so
important.

I prepared my Pasty cups with red food dye, without the foresight that they would be used
a month down the line for Galindoi isolates. Distinguishing the subtle brown tones on the
red agar was basically impossible. It wasn't until I performed a close autopsy on my agar
that I saw that I had missed the choice transfer on the plate. My new outgrowths look
rather white, wispy and harmless.

Whole oats may be before stonesun's day. Having used quit a bit of both grain types, I
don't have any reason to believe whole oats would be inferior to rye in any way that would
be terribly noticeable for ATL#7. Will be finding out very shortly, because I have several
happy fruiting cultures of ATL#7 currently happening all generated with supplemented
whole oats.

Loc: Sun & Sand This is my very first grow. Yes, that is right, you have a new born asking big boy questions.
Inoculation was one month and 4 days ago. Everything is going very well so far. No
contamination. Love watching the stones grow. The Jalisco stones are very small and just
starting in some of the jars. The Tampa stones are Huge in all of their jars. Is this normal?
I'm cultivating Tampa, Jalisco and Pan Cyan Cambodian. I was looking for the first two
Psilocybe on your list but could not find them in syringe form.
I want to fruit the Tampa and Jalisco. After they've fruited a few times, is that when I should
harvest the stones or keep using them to fruit more if I desire to do so?
I've noticed a big difference in how fast each jar is colonizing. Some are close to "ready to
go", others look like they have at least another 2 wks, maybe 3.
What will happen to the fully colonized jars if they have to wait another few wks for the
others to fully colonize? Any issues? Risk of contamination? ..or will this be beneficial?
I'm using this mix. As a noob I thought it best to use pre-made. I'm not ready to make my
own substrate.
I also have a bag of Jalisco rye berry seed that is strictly for stones and don't plan to touch
for at least 4 months or until it's ready to burst. I'll try to fruit what grain is left.
This info is just more of an fyi because I feel I'll get the "why don't you just use grain bags"
from the community. So yes, I'm also doing it.
Edit: They are in a room that is a constant 77-81'F and 42-51% humidity.
The Cambo's colonized Super fast. All but one jar is ready to go.
Thanks in advance,
Joe
--------------------
Post Extras:
The first two are Tampa, the second two are Jalisco and the last three are Pan Cyan
Cambo.
Fruiting was my intent for both Mexicana's. Can I still fruit the Tampa's with all those
stones? Do I dunk and roll them with all those stones?
I don't think the Jalisco will be an issue to fruit. But they do need more time to fully
colonize.
Pan Cyan Cambo... As you can see in the pic there is a yellow circle, they started to show
about 4 to 5 days ago. What is it? It looks like a stone (a light beige color) but they don't
produce.
I had one of these jars start colonizing a full month after being Noc'd, the others started
within 3/4 days. It's colonizing fine now but a full month??
Anyone have an opinion about why it took so long?
I'd like to birth all of them at the same time but some look like they need a lot more time,
Can I keep the others on the shelf (dark room, no light, 77-80'F, approx. 42-46% humidity)
until all have fully colonized?

If you want to make eatable sclerotia, you should grow them on grains, not a PF-cake like
mixture, pretty hard to clean them. With grains it does not matter if you eat a grain kernel, I
don't know what happening with the vermiculite in our digesting system
Casing: anything is cool, what is aerate and humid. I prefer coco coir, but vermiculite works
well.
You can harvest some fruits from a tub. In my experiences they a bit more resistant than
cubes, but a little slower from pin to harvest. If a little green mould occur, harvest the fruits,
and then crush the substrate for stones. You don't need the mould grow around the
stones.
If panaeolus discolours, it's old and ready to spawn into some mannure/coir mixture.
If you do these on grains you can shake the jar, when there is a little uncolonised territory.
3 days and you ready (2 with pans)
These are my experiences, and my ways, yours works to as we can see. So the choice is
yours.
Peace
