Eydan, Megan. “What Is the Importance of Fine Arts in a Public High School Education?”
Classroom,

8.html Accessed 28 Nov. 2017. In this article, Megan Eyden explains the importance of
the fine arts in public high schools because of the learning experiences in communication
and leadership that prepares them for their career and personal life. Eyden states that
statistics have been proven that students that participate in the arts score higher on
standardized tests and spend their time more wisely. Megan Eyden proposes that students
receive a more well rounded education when they are involved in the fine arts because
they learn how to communicate and work with others. The arts are a subject that are
completely different and students typically become leaders and are more successful in
their academic career. These findings are important to my capstone because it not only
brings worth to the fine arts but when I bring the subject up to the administration there is
evidence behind the cause. If my plan to help direct the Fine Arts showcase follows

Oklahoma Baptist University puts on every year to showcase the fine arts at their college.
Johnson explains the event is planned and coordinated by Dr. Christopher W. Mathews,
and students, faculty, and alumni are welcome to participate. The showcase is a way for
the college to tell what occurs in their classes and advertise the community the
importance of their study. This not only is a successful event but incorporates the
different branches of the fine arts, but tells the stories of the students’ past. Students often
perform something from their culture or past which helps create the illusion that the
university accepts everyone. This article helps my capstone project because it gives me
an idea of improving the events we already have at our school. Also it gives me an
initiative to invite our community members, so that our school and it’s accomplishments
Smith, Fran. “Why Arts Education Is Crucial, and Who’s Doing It Best.” Edutopia, 28 Jan. 2009,
In this article, Fran Smith deciphers that art education is closely linked to social and
opportunity. After researching the effects of the arts on students, Smith found areas in
America that are creating legislation for their students to participate in more art related
curriculum in regular and elective classes. Smith found that officials are starting to
recognize that our education systems do not give the arts enough attention or funding.
Since the loss of government funding created a huge gap the return of these studies would
take time and a massive investment. However eighty-nine percent of elementary schools
do not have sufficient studies the the four main arts. This article will motivate me to bring
attention to the fact that our school does have the budget for the fine arts and we should
celebrate that factor instead of talking down upon the school’s programs.
Soule, Jeff, et al. “How Arts and Cultural Strategies Create, Reinforce, and Enhance Sense of
In this article, Jeff Soule devises that there are four main topics you have to look into
before planning anything involving the fine arts in a community. Soule explains that
before trying to implement anything for a community you must look at the background of
the community and what the community celebrates. The framework and normality of the
the group because you do not to come off as an intruder but a servant of the public
instead. He also places the idea that any arts education or masterpieces that may be
infused should be connected to the community’s culture in one way or another. This
information and entire article is very important to my capstone because it explains how to
approach the situation with the people who are in charge of my school and fine art
department. This illustrates that I need to research not only ways to showcase the fine arts

Dec. 2017. This source is a budget plan for the previous school year that the Riverside
Unified School District came up, and it explains how millions of dollars are being spent
throughout our schools. This is the exact source of how American tax dollars are being
spent in education and even which programs get more money. The one hundred and
eighty-four page summary is filled with payments to teachers, for facilities, and to fund
educational programs. Once the list starts becoming more in depth you notice that fine
arts do receive large sums of money, however it is not specified on how the money is to
be used. This is very important to my capstone because I would need to find out how the
money is being used, and if there are more innovative ways to spend that money. There
also is the freedom for the fine art departments in the district that maybe I could use some
