    This is the police report where Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy Lt. Kevin M. Bennett was found to have stolen from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office over 36 complete case files including all of the original reports, all the evidence that was collected within those reports and even valuables and possessions that belonged to the victims and suspects. There were even tissue samples and medical evidence within these files. Instead of taking action against Lt. Bennett, Sheriff Robert Gualtieri elected to do NOTHING. What if anyone wanted to appeal a conviction from within these files? What if someone was wrongfully convicted and needed the DNA evidence contained in these files? How is it possible for Lt. Bennett to steal these files without raising any red flags at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and more importantly WHY did he steal them? PCSO Lt.     On April 21, 2016 I was advised to contact Tia Bennett regarding property she had found in her attic that is related to PCSO cases.
    Tia Bennett was married to retired member Kevin Bennett.

    I called Tia and made arrangements to meet her at her residence around 1500 hours.

    I met with Tia at 2259 Spanish Vistas Dr in Dunedin.

    Narrative - Continued

    Tia advised that her and Kevin are divorced. She stated they moved into this residence in 1999. Kevin moved out January 2, 2014
    and the divorce was final in September 2015. Tia advised that on January 2, 2014 Kevin removed all of his belongings from the
    residence to include boxes he had kept in the attic and he has not been at that location since.

    Tia stated that last week she was in the attic and found three (3) storage boxes that contained PCSO evidence bags with items in
    them. They also contained file folders and cassette and vhs tapes.

    Tia wanted to return these boxes to PCSO in case they were still pertinent. I collected all three boxes and brought them back to the
    SAB.

    I went through all of the boxes and it appears that most of the items are from old closed cases and there were several case agent
    review forms that showed the items signed out to him.

    I built all case numbers that could be found as related to this case for tracking purposes and all property with labels and/or in bags
    will be returned to PES and resubmitted.

    All other items, case files, etc will be destroyed since they contain ACISS related material that is still maintained.
