To Whom it May Concern:

This letter is in support of Jeffrey Malone’s application for employment as a music educator in
your district. I have known Jeffrey for almost two years as his wind ensemble conductor at the
University of Arizona, and I am extremely pleased to speak about Jeffrey’s experience, skill, and
potential for success as an educator.

Jeffrey has consistently demonstrated the fundamental elements of masterful musicianship and
collaboration in the classroom, and he will undoubtedly evolve into a world-class music
educator. While at UA, Jeffrey displayed perhaps the most dramatic improvement I have seen in
many years of teaching. His viewpoint shifted from a purely student perspective to one that
represents the teacher, as well. He actively seeks out solutions to musical problems, for himself
and for those around him.

Jeffrey carries the respect of his peers, and he shows respect for those around him. Other
students enjoy working with him, and he has excellent interpersonal skills. This allows him to
connect immediately with faculty and with other students, maximizing the potential every class
and rehearsal.

As a former high school and junior high school teacher, I recognize a key quality in Jeffrey that
will serve him exceptionally well: Jeffrey faces and solves challenges, no matter how unexpected
those challenges may be. This skill is a requirement for any music educator, and Jeffrey has
already developed excellent strategies.

I give a very positive recommendation for Jeffrey Malone. He has proven himself to be a gifted
student. I am certain that your school will benefit from his efforts, and I look forward to seeing
his success in the future.

Sincerely,

Chad R. Nicholson, DM
