Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s gospel, Jesus establishes his authority by his wise teaching and healing among the
people. Parents, you have authority from God to teach and care for your children. Do you
exercise this authority in the spirit of Jesus? Are you under His authority, seeking His wisdom
when making decisions and exercising your power?
314 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. We have
one new committed adorer this week; Billie McClees. Many thanks and may our Lord
bless you.

A reminder for all adorers: Be sure, if you are unable to keep your hour, to as soon as
possible, call your captain. We cannot leave our Lord, exposed in the Blessed Sacrament
alone. Bad weather (as we have had lately) is always difficult, please plan ahead. By the grace
of God and a wife and husband, we did not have to repose our Lord, many thanks to all who
treasure their committed hour.

First Saturday devotion to “Our Lady of Fatima” will be Saturday, February 3 following
the 4:00pm Mass (approximately 5:15). Our Blessed Mother will listen to your
petitions and present them to Her Son. This is a beautiful Hour with Fatima prayers
and the rosary as part of the Hour. Come and join us!

(Barberton Area Community Ministries item for the Month of February is Soup. All

This week is the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Many people in Latin America and
Caribbean do not have access to church programs and ministries because of rural terrain and a lack of

Candlemas Day, February 2 – represents the entry of Christ, the light of the
world, into the temple of Jerusalem. Bringing the candle into the home is a
sign that Christ is with you in your everyday life. Candles will be blessed
and you are welcome to take one home.

February 3 – Feast of St. Blaise –On the Feast of St. Blaise, it is customary to bless the
throats of the faithful with candles to preserve them from illnesses of the throat.
Throats will be blessed at all Masses on the weekend of February 3 & 4.

Men! On Saturday, February 24, the Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Northeast Ohio is holding its
18th annual Answer the Call conference at the Holiday Inn in Independence. Key speakers
include Peter Herbeck, VP and Director of Missions for Renewal Ministries who is actively
involved in evangelization and Catholic Renewal throughout the world; Eric Mahl, a merciless
linebacker with the Cleveland Browns and NY Jets who, after spending three years with
Carmelite hermits in Texas, was transformed into a messenger of Divine Mercy; and Greg
Wasinski, a nationally recognized speaker and writer who inspires with a message building on
real life examples of Christ’s Love.

Geraldine Brooks’ book “The Secret Chord” is the next selection of the Women of Faith’s
parish book club. This is historical fiction which tells the story of King David through the
eyes of the prophet Nathan. Join us on Thursday, February 8 at 1:00 in the rectory for our
discussion. Everyone is welcome to attend any or all sessions through the year. The Secret
Chord is easily available at local libraries or book stores.

The Esther Ryan Shoe Fund will hold its Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 9
from 4-7 PM at the Prince of Peace Social Hall, 1263 Shannon Ave. The cost is $6 for adults
and $3 for children under ten. There is meatless sauce and carry out for those wishing it.
The Barberton Firefighters are the chefs for the evening. Proceeds of this event will be
used to purchase shoes and socks for needy children in the Barberton Schools. For questions, call

 Save the date for the QUEEN OF HEARTS (Shrove Tuesday) Card Party, February 13 from 5-9, in
the SAC (a meal will be served at 6:00pm), presented by the Women of Faith. Tickets are $8;
$10 after February 4 or at the door, they can be purchased at the rectory or from any member
of Women of Faith. In order to get the discounted price of $8.00, monies must be received by
February 4, otherwise tickets are $10.00.

Parenting Classes for Fathers - Be a man…be a family! Embrace Clinic and Care Center in
Barberton is offering free fatherhood classes beginning February 21, 2018. This series of six
classes will help strengthen the relationship between a man and his children by advocating the
importance of authentic manhood and fatherhood through educational, emotional and spiritual

Mark your calendar – Experiencing God: Splendor in the ordinary – Transformation to

“The Kenmore Free Store” is a collaborative ministry of Park United Methodist Church and
Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish, Kenmore. The phenomenal success of this
ministry has caused a backlog of unpacking, evaluation, sorting and display or storage of
donated items. We really need help! Groups are especially welcome. The store is in the

Tickets are on sale for the Annual St. Augustine Athletic Board Reverse Raffle being held

January Pre-Baptism Class for Parents. January 29. 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. This class is for
parents seeking to have their infants baptized into the Catholic faith. This class meets
