Medical Marijuana

Did you know that marijuana is medicine? Yes, it is. We can use the derivatives of

marijuana in many ways such as a pill, syrup, a joint, and in food. Marijuana for medical

use is inspected and legally sold in several states. For those with diseases such as

Cancer, HIV, Alzheimer, and Depression, conventional drugs don’t work. Medical

marijuana is a good choice to help with this diseases that are related to pain and/or

psychological problems.

Medical marijuana helps with a lot of physical diseases, such as cancer, HIV,

Parkinson’s and Arthritis. First, cancer usually requires chemotherapy. This result in

serious side effect, such as severe nausea and vomiting. According to the Marijuana

Policy Project (2003), “Marijuana can stimulate the appetite and alleviate nausea and

vomiting.” Second, HIV patients who have pain from nerve damage can get relief by

smoking marijuana (Grinspoon 2008). Other conditions for which marijuana may prove

beneficial include epilepsy, muscle spasticity, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, and

depression. A 2008 study by the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that the

most commonly reported short-term adverse effect of cannabinoid use is dizziness

(Report published by the National Academies of Sciences 2017).

Some psychological problems such as Alzheimer, Autism and Depression, can be

treated with medical Marijuana. Cannabis is a 21-carbon molecule that contains 483

chemicals, of which 66 are cannabinoids. Many of the 483 compounds have medicinal

value. Cannabinoids compete with dopamine for the binding sites on the dopamine

transporter, and in sufficient quantity it wins, thus freeing up more dopamine to help slow

down the speed of neurotransmissions. In this way is used in psychological disorders

such as medicine. A preclinical study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease

found that very small doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a chemical found in

marijuana, can slow the production of beta-amyloid proteins, thought to be a hallmark

characteristic and key contributor to the progression of Alzheimer’s. Dr. Robert Melamede

Ph.D., Cannabis Science Inc., President & CEO, stated, "We are excited to continue the

partnership with UF4A and help advocate for the treatment of Autism with medical

marijuana, in addition to our launch party and other public forums and media initiatives.

Autism stands out amongst medical conditions because there is no medicine to treat it,

and the only relating medicine are prescribed for the associated side effects and not

Autism itself. Medical marijuana is the only medicine that can directly treat the Autism and

without the horrific side effects of pharmaceuticals."

Smoking marijuana can cause a heart attack during the first hour our smoking. The

risk is five times higher because it can increase blood pressure. Refutation medical

marijuana is not smoke. The amount used is controlled. Furthermore, medical marijuana

is very good for physical pain and psychological problems. People do better with it than

conventional medicine.

In conclusion, we can use the marijuana or its derivatives as a good option to relive

pain and effects of some physical and psychological diseases
