PREMISE IDEAS

1. THE POEM
The story is focused around a young girl (12-13 years old) as she gets older, and her
struggles with mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, anorexia, BPD, etc. The
story will be told in the form of a 3 part poem.
A. Poem Variations
i. The first variation of the poem uses the 3 segments in an order that creates a
very somber, sad ending, almost harrowing in tone. The final shot would
include a shot of the book the poems are written in, with one of the pages
next to the poem bloodstained, with the words “don’t eat you fat bitch, it’s all
you’ll ever be” written on it.
ii. The second variation of the poem structure would take a completely
different turn, going from the section used as the ending to the first
variation, to a much more light-hearted, happy and uplifting ending, alluding
to the fact that with the right help and support, people with issues like that
are able to, even if only slightly, make life better for themselves.
B. Character design
i. For the younger version of the girl, the design will be based around what the
author of the poems was wearing and looked like at that age. This consisted
of dungarees, with her hair being purple and tied into plaits.
ii. The older version of the girl will dress casually – hoodies and jeans, etc. Her
hair will now be a dark red, but no longer tied into plaits.
iii. The oldest version of the girl will have short hair (pixie cut), and it will be
black. The clothing style will stay the same.
Again, these differences in design reflect how the author of the poems looked as
they were growing up.

2. MOTIVATION
A “Creature Comforts” style animation, centred around various technical appliances
and objects that no longer feel motivated to do what they are designed to do. This
will be created by interviewing various people and asking them what motivates
them, do they enjoy their job, why they might not be motivated to do their work etc.
The piece will be comedic in tone, again, a la “Creature Comforts”.
A. Story
i. There will not be a traditional “linear” story. It will be done in the same
interview like format as news segments/Creature Comforts. It will be done
in a documentary style.

B. Character design
i. The objects will initially have a very basic design, with generic,
monochromatic colour schemes, and flat surfaces, no “design” put into them,
as it were. Once the interviews are conducted, traits of the people being
interviewed can be translated onto the objects they are providing the voice
for – e.g. if there are 2 people being interviewed at once, and one of the
things they’re talking about is change, have 2 television remotes having the
conversation, or if someone mentions something about browsing the web
and they’re a younger person, have a modern notebook/laptop as the
character, whereas if they’re someone from a slightly older generation, have
the computer be more of a “retro” style desktop computer.
