Parts of Microsoft Word Environment

1. File tab - is a section on the Office ribbon that gives you access to file functions.
For example, from the File tab you can access the Open, Save, Close, Properties,
and Recent file options.
2. Quick Access Toolbar - gives you quick access to commonly used features such
as the Save feature. Clicking on the Quick Access Toolbar down arrow gives you
the ability to customize the Quick Access Toolbar and add and remove any of the
commands shown in the toolbar.
3. Ribbon – functions as combination of menu bar and toolbar, offering tabbed
“pages” of buttons, lists, and commands.
4. Title Bar - bar located at the top of a window or a dialog box that displays the
name of the window or software program being used.
5. Dialog Box Launcher - is a small icon that appears in a group. Users click this
icon to open related dialog boxes or task panes that provide more options that
relate to the group.
6. Ruler - is a measurement tool found with some software programs that allow the
program's user to align graphics, text, tables, or other elements on a page. When
enabled the horizontal ruler appears at the top of the document, and the vertical
ruler is on the left-side of the document. In the pictures below are examples of how
the ruler may appear in Microsoft Word.
7. Help - is a control that the user can click to display the application help system.
8. Document Area - is the blank section of a Word processor or other document
program that allows user to create content.
9. Status Bar – reports information about the document and provides shortcuts for
changing the view and the zoom.
10. View buttons – gives the user a vast number of options for viewing the
document.
