Children born in 2014 are eligible to start Junior Kindergarten this coming September.
You can begin the process by pre-registering online at www.ucdsb.on.ca, or calling Arklan
School directly at 257-8113. Arklan’s parent information night is scheduled for Wednes-
day, Feb. 21st, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. This is the “paperwork” night for parents.

Carleton Place Intermediate School is hosting an Open House Night

for grade 6 students who will be attending next school year. The
event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 6th, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00
PM, starting in the CPHS cafeteria. Students and parents will have an
opportunity to tour the school, find out more about programs, and
ask questions.

During the week of February 5th to 9th, Arklan students will be participating in dance classes taught by
the progressive team from Momentum Moves Canada. Their lessons are designed to take students
through the creative process one move at a time, in a fun and supportive environment. The choreogra-
phy and music are age appropriate so students can enjoy success while being challenged.

BOKS is a FREE program that
gives kids a body and brain
boost that will set them up for
a day of learning. The Arklan
BOKS program started back
up in January and will contin-
ue every Tuesday and Thurs-
day morning from 8:15 to
9:00 until February 22nd. For

BOKS program does not run
on “snow-days”.

MATHLETICS is a full day “hands on” from 10:00 AM to 1:55 PM in the

MATH EVENT for grades 2 through 6,
which sets the tone for mathematical
success and builds bonds between
students in an atmosphere that pro-
motes co-operation, fun and learn-
ing. Arklan is hosting a MATHLETIC
event on Tuesday, February 13th
gymnasium. The students will be ro-
tating through a variety of activity
stations. Parents are invited to stop
by to see their children engaged in
math activities in an atmosphere that
promotes co-operation, learning, fun
& celebration!

We are in the process of planning our annual Winter Activity

Day, scheduled for Wednesday, February 21st. Students will
be choosing from a number of fun activities.

Champions for Kids is a program introduced a
number of years ago by the Upper Canada
District School Board. The program supports
students by helping them take part in
sporting activities, music lessons and other
opportunities in our communities. The foun-
dation also supports families when they face
challenging circumstances.
Arklan School will be hosting a C4K Fundrais-
ing Day on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Stu-
dents will have the opportunity to shoot as
many free throws as they can in 1 minute.
Students will be asked to donate a toonie for
the opportunity to shoot. All grades will par-
ticipate during their regular phys-ed class.
Feel free to join your child, cheer for your
child or challenge your child, or their teacher!

It’s Arklan School Day at the Canadians’ home game on Friday, March 2, 2018.
Our school has an opportunity to win $500 just by attending the game and
bringing tons of positive energy. Participating schools all have the opportunity
of attending their own home game. The school with the best representation
wins $500. Members of the Canadians will be visiting Arklan to hand out free
tickets! More information will be posted on our Facebook page.

BRRRRR……... ….our winter weather is fickle, but it’s cold out there!!! Please make
sure your children are equipped for the cold weather. We try to
spend time outside every day, so dress warmly! Don’t forget hats,
mitts, boots and snow-pants every day.

Please contact us if your child is not a bus
student, and is staying home due to the
inclement weather. There’s no need to call
the school if your child will be absent be-
cause their bus is cancelled.

Bus cancellations are posted by 6:15 AM.
