Man's False Arrest Suit Tossed Out

A U.S. District Court judge on Tuesday threw out a wrongful arrest lawsuit
filed against a Will County police investigator and top county official by a
Manhattan Township man acquitted in the shooting death of his wife.

Raymond Nugent Jr., 37, filed suit seeking an undisclosed amount in


damages after a jury acquitted him of the Aug. 6, 1996, shooting of his wife,
Cheryl, in the couple's home.

The lawsuit, filed in March, alleged Nugent was falsely arrested, endured
malicious prosecution and suffered intentional infliction of emotional
distress as a result of his arrest and indictment. Nugent's suit also accused
