SPECIFICATIONS
YARN: The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light (80% merino wool,
10% cashmere, 10% silk; 328 yds/100gm skein):
Kinnego Bay, 1 skein.
GAUGE: 23 sts and 32 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in rib pattern on
larger needles, after blocking.
NEEDLES:
1 – US 3 (3.25 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular.
1 – US 5 (3.75 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular.
1 – set US 5 (3.75mm) DPNs.
NOTIONS: Darning needle, stitch marker.
SIZE: 18” (46 cm) circumference, unstretched. 11.125”
(28.25 cm) length, brim unfolded.
SKILLS: Working in the round, decreasing.
STITCH PATTERNS
K1, P1 Broken Ribbing (in the rnd over a mult of 2):
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: K all sts.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 for patt.
Wide Broken Ribbing (in the rnd over a mult of 8):
Rnd 1: *K7, p1; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: K all sts.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 for patt.

DIRECTIONS
BRIM: Using smaller ndls, CO 104 sts. Join for working in
the rnd, being careful not to twist sts. PM indicating beg
of rnd. Work in K1, P1 Broken Ribbing for 2” (5cm), ending
after working a Rnd 2. Change to larger ndls.
BODY: Work Rnds 1 and 2 of Wide Broken Ribbing until
hat meas 9.5” (24.25 cm) from CO edge, ending after
working a Rnd 2.
Begin Crown Decreases: Rnd 1: *K5, k2tog, p1; rep from
* around – 91 sts. Rnds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12: K all sts.
Rnd 3: *K4, k2tog, p1; rep from * around – 78 sts.
Rnd 5: *K3, k2tog, p1; rep from * around – 65 sts. Rnd
7: *K2, k2tog, p1; rep from * around – 52 sts. Rnd 9: *K1,
k2tog, p1; rep from * around – 39 sts. Rnd 11: *K2tog, p1;
rep from * around – 26 sts. Rnd 13: K2tog around – 13 sts.
FINISHING: Break yarn, thread through live sts and fasten
off. Weave in ends. Soak in cool water and wool wash and
block to measurements. Using remaining yarn, make a
large pom pom and attach to top of hat.
