PS3 Prox - Help:

Requirements:
 Sony PS3 (or PSP)
 PC with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
 PS3 Prox (Download from - http://www.ps3prox.co.za)
o Please uninstall any previous versions of PS3 Prox before you install the latest version
 PS3/PSP and Computer must be on the same Network
 .NET Framework 2 (if you are using PS3 Prox 2.0) or .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (if you are using PS3 Prox 3.5)
o NOTE: The .NET Framework might already be installed on your computer

NOTE: PS3 Prox uses an XML file (PS3 Prox.xml – located in the Installation Folder – generally C:\Program Files\PS3 Prox), I
recommend that you make a backup of this file, especially when you uninstall PS3 Prox as this file will be deleted and
you will have to re-add all your PSN Items in the Replace Files tab.

Features:

7. Download PSN Items without having to worry about losing the connection and having to restart the download (Note:
need to use a download manager – e.g. Free Download Manager)
8. Download PS3 Firmware Updates
9. Download PSN Items from any PC and “upload” them to your PS3/PSP at any tme
10. Check what the latest PS3 Firmware Version is and an option to download file

Initial Setup:
1. Setup PS3 Prox:
a. On the “Proxy Settings” tab in PS3 Prox
b. Select the required Mode (PS3 or PSP)
c. Now there are 2 ways to get/enter the IP Address:
Way 1:
 Click the “Get IP’s” button
 The box below the button should now be populated with 1 or more IP Addresses
 Select the IP Address that corresponds to your “Local Area Connection” IP Address
o NOTE: If you have multiple IP Addresses in the box, and you are not sure which IP Address
Corresponds to your “Local Area Connection” IP Address rather use Way 2.
Way 2:
 Click Start  Run
 Enter “cmd” (without the quotes) and click “Ok”
 A new window will open, in this window type “ipconfig” (without the quotes), then hit “Enter”
 Now look for a section that starts with “Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:” – Note: There
might be a number at the end of this line
o Under this section you should see “IP Address” – the value on the right is the IP Address you
will use (take note of this IP Address)
 Back in the PS3 Prox Settings window enter the above IP Address into the box next to “IP Address”
d. Enter in a Port Number (default (and recommended) is “8080” – will need to be an Open Port if you have a
firewall installed).
e. If you want PS3 Prox to automatically start when Windows starts, ensure there is an IP Address in the text
box and that you have selected the “Auto Start” checkbox.
f. Click “Save Settings” to save the settings, so next time you start PS3 Prox you will not have to run through
the settings again (unless your IP Address changes)
Setup on PS3 Prox is now done.

PS3 Prox – Proxy Settings Tab

2. Setup PS3/PSP:
a. On the PS3 go to Settings  Network Settings
b. Go to “Internet Connection Settings” (Click “Yes” if it asks you if you want to continue)
c. Go and adjust/setup your Internet Connection Settings on the PS3/PSP
 Under Select a Setting Method – Select “Custom”
 Continue entering your Internet Settings as you would normally, until you get to the Proxy Server
Screen
 Under Proxy Server, select “Use”
a. For the Address, enter the same IP Address you entered in PS3 Prox
b. For the Port Number enter the same Port Number you entered in PS3 Prox (default is
“8080”)
d. Continue through the Setup steps and Test the Connection
Setup on the PS3/PSP is now done.

3. Test PS3 Prox:


a. On the PS3 Prox Settings window click “Start”
b. Select the “Log” tab
 If you want to Save the History of the Log tab, select the “Save History” checkbox
 Browse to where you want to save the History Log file, click “Save”
 If you want to View the History, click the “View History” link
c. On the PS3/PSP go to Internet Explorer
d. Looking at the “Log” tab on PS3 Prox you should see all the http/internet requests being listed
 If you see this PS3 Prox is setup correctly
 If you don’t see anything in this tab, PS3 Prox has not been setup properly, run through steps 1 and 2
again.
You should see something similar to the screen below if PS3 Prox is setup correctly

Updating PS3/PSP Firmware:
NOTE: If you have/know the download link and have downloaded the file then you can skip Step 4 and 5 (do Step 5 first if
you have not already downloaded the file, but know the download link)

1. Start PS3 Prox


2. Switch on the PS3/PSP
3. If a new Firmware is found you will be requested to update, click “Ok” (NOTE: The PS3 needs to be connected to the
Internet to check for updates)
4. Look at the “Log” tab in PS3 Prox
a. Once the download has started you should see the download link for the Firmware, you can now
Stop/Cancel the download on the PS3 – take note of the download link as you will need it later (the best
thing to do is to Copy the link, then go to the “Replace Files” tab and click “Paste Link” then click “Add”)
5. Download the Firmware on your PC
6. Once downloaded, you can now update the PS3/PSP Firmware
7. Make sure PS3 Prox is Started
8. Go to the “Replace Files” tab
a. Enter a Description for the Firmware (i.e. PS3 Firmware v2.80)
b. “Paste” or Enter the Firmware download link into the ‘Download Link’ box – if it is not already there
c. Click “Browse” to locate the downloaded PUP (PS3 Firmware Filename)/PBP (PSP Firmware Filename) on
your PC, click “Open”
d. Click “Add”
9. Go to the “Log” tab – just to see that it replaces the links
10. On the PS3/PSP go to Settings  Update  Via Internet
11. Click “Ok” to start the download
12. Now on the “Log” tab you should see the Original Download Link (i.e. the link you used to download the Firmware on
the PC) as well as the Path to the Firmware file on your PC, you will also notice on the PS3/PSP that the download is
a lot faster.
13. Firmware Update is now done.
Updating PS3 Games:
NOTE: If you have/know the download link and have downloaded the file then you can skip Step 3 and 4 (do Step 4 first if
you have not already downloaded the file, but know the download link)

1. Start PS3 Prox (on the “Settings” tab) and go to the “Log” tab
2. Start the PS3 game
3. If an update is found, click “Yes” and look at the “Log” tab in PS3 Prox
a. Once the download starts you should see the download link in the “Log” tab, you can now Stop/Cancel the
download on the PS3 – take note of the download link as you will need it later (the best thing to do is to
Copy the link, then go to the “Replace Files” tab and click “Paste Link” then click “Add”)
4. Use the download link in the log tab to get the download of the patch and download the patch onto your PC

NOTE: It is normal to show the 2 links (even though they are exactly the same)

You will notice 2 checkboxes on the Log tab (Styles and Images):
If you notice the Log displaying links to XML, CSS and JS files, then click the Styles checkbox and from now on the Log will not
display these links.
If you notice the Log displaying links to Image files such as JPG, PNG and BMP, then click the Images checkbox and from now
on the Log will not display these links.

5. Once downloaded, you can now update the PS3 Game


6. Make sure PS3 Prox is Started
7. Go to the “Replace Files” tab
a. If you have not created an XML file to save to then:
i. Click “Browse” under the Save XML File To section, select a location to save the XML file to
ii. Click “Save”
b. Enter a Description for the PSN Item
c. “Paste” the Game Patch download link into the ‘Download Link’ box – if it is not already there
d. Click “Browse” to locate the downloaded Patch File on your PC, click “Open”
e. Click “Add” to add it to the Replace Files List
NOTE: If you want to delete a PSN Item from the list, select the row (the whole row should be highlighted) of the PSN Item
you want to Delete, then press “Delete” on your keyboard.

8. Go to the “Log” tab – just to see that it replaces the links


9. Start the PS3 Game
10. Again click “Yes” when asked to update
11. Now on the “Log” tab you should see the Original Download Link (i.e. the link you used to download the Firmware on
the PC) as well as the Path to the Firmware file on your PC, you will also notice on the PS3/PSP that the download is
a lot faster.
12. Your PS3 Game is now updated
Installing PSN Games:
NOTE: If you have/know the download link and have downloaded the file then you can skip Step 4, 5 and 6 (do Step 6 first if
you have not already downloaded the file, but know the download link) – you will still need to Purchase the PSN Items (i.e.
do Steps 2 and 3)

1. Start PS3 Prox and go to the “Log” tab


2. Log into PSN Store on your PS3 (NOTE: The PS3 need to be connected to the internet to access the PSN Store)
3. Purchase game (or add free game to your basket – i.e. demos)
4. You might want to “Clear” the “Log” tab in PS3 Prox now
5. Start downloading game and then Cancel the download once you have the download link in the “Log” tab.
6. Download item on your PC using the links on the “Log” tab
7. Once downloaded go to the “Replace Files” tab
a. Enter a Description for the PSN Item
b. Enter/Paste the Download Link
c. Browse for the file on your PC
d. Click “Add”
8. Go back into PSN Store and start the download of the item again
9. Installation of PSN Games is now done

Checking for the Latest PS3 Firmware Version – Without using the PS3:

1. In PS3 Prox go to the “Check Firmware” tab


2. Select your PS3’s Region
3. Click “Check”
4. You will now see the latest PS3 Firmware Version, a Download Link and a ‘Copy & Paste’ Download Link
a. You can use the Download Link to download the Latest PS3 Firmware
(You can use the ‘Copy & Paste’ Download Link to paste the Firmware Link in the “Replace Files” tab – as
explained under the “Updating PS3/PSP Firmware & Games” section.

To Automatically Check for New PS3 Firmware on Startup:

1. In PS3 Prox go to the “Check Firmware” tab


2. Select the Enable checkbox (changes to Disable when checked)
3. Select the PS3 Region
4. Enter the PS3 Version you currently have installed on your PS3
5. Click Save to keep these changes
6. Next time you start PS3 Prox it will check for a newer PS3 Firmware Version and prompt you if there is a newer
version available.

Note: The PS3 does not have to be connected to the network to check for the latest firmware.
Note 2: An internet connection is required on the PC you use to check for the latest firmware
