individuals of Pakistani descent who have had success
overseas. We believe that success is a ladder that each
one of these individuals have climbed to be
among the best in their fields. From sectors as
diverse as healthcare and technology to
occupations in the financial, academic
and social work spheres, they all have
one thing in common: they make
us and Pakistan proud.
Asif Akram
Asif Akram has been in management
consulting for the last 20 years. He has
worked extensively in the Middle East and
Pakistan region and currently leads the IBM
Global Consulting group for the Middle East,
Africa and Turkey region. He pioneered the
creation of a Consulting Global Delivery center
for IBM in Pakistan of 400 people which is serving
IBM clients all over the world. Professionally, his
mission is to see how he can lead enterprises through
the digital and cognitive revolution which is changing
the world. He is passionate about talent growth and
leadership development and focuses on mentoring and
coaching several young leaders. Asif holds an MBA in
Information Systems.

Ashar Aziz
Ashar Aziz worked for
Sun Microsystems before
founding Terraspring, a data
centre automation and
virtualization company, later
acquired by Sun Microsystems.
Ashar then founded FireEye, a
Silicon Valley cybersecurity company,
which is now operating in over 100
countries with close to a billion dollars in
annual sales. Mr. Aziz is the recipient of the
Technology and Innovation Award from the
Wall Street Journal and the Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year award. Forbes
magazine has called Ashar one of the best
engineers on the planet and MIT Technology
Review declared his company FireEye as the one of
the fifty smartest companies in the world. Ashar is
currently Chairman & CEO of SkyElectric, a company
building intelligent solar and battery storage systems for
developing world markets. Ashar completed his primary
and secondary schooling from Karachi and Islamabad. He
holds an SB from MIT and an MS from UC Berkeley.

Dr. Adil Haider
Adil Haider is an active trauma
and critical care surgeon, prolific
researcher, and the Kessler Director
for the Center for Surgery and Public
Health, a joint initiative of Brigham and
Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical
School, and the Harvard School of Public
Health in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also
the Deputy Editor of JAMA Surgery, a monthly
professional medical journal, and President of the
Association for Academic Surgery. In 2017, he
received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his work
aimed at improving the health of minorities and the
underprivileged. Dr. Haider believes that equality is the
cornerstone of medicine, and he hopes to eradicate
disparities in healthcare across the globe. Adil holds an
MBBS from Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi and
an MPH from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Adil Haider Surgery and Public Health at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard
Medical School (HMS) - Received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2017 for his
work aimed at improving the health of minorities and the underprivileged.
Professor
Asim Khwaja
Asim Ijaz Khwaja is a Professor
of International Finance and
Development at Harvard Kennedy
School – one of the first Pakistani
professors tenured by Harvard. His
areas of research include economic
development, finance, education, public
finance, political economy, and institutions.
His work has been published in top
academic journals and covered by media
outlets including the Economist, New York
Times, Al-Jazeera, and BBC. He received the
Tamgha-i-Imitiaz for his work on improving
educational outcomes in Pakistan, and following the
2005 Pakistan earthquake, Khwaja co-founded
RISEPAK, a web portal to coordinate relief aid, which won
the Stockholm Challenge Award. Khwaja is also
co-founder of the alternative lending firm Entrepreneurial
Finance Lab, and co-founder of the Center for Economic
Research in Pakistan (CERP), which aims to bridge the gap
between academic research and policy making in Pakistan. Dr
Khwaja completed his secondary schooling from Lahore and holds
a BS degree in Economics and Mathematics with Computer Science
from MIT and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

Rim Bank. Noor is also the
co-founder of Fajr Capital, a sovereign

specializing in east-west investments in
the financial sector. He previously served as
President and CEO of Charles Schwab Bank,
MD Emerging Markets for the Corporate &
Investment Bank at Citigroup and as a leader in
US Consumer Banking at JP Morgan Chase. A
noted expert on financial innovation and
regulatory affairs, he appears frequently on
Bloomberg and Economist Events and is a guest writer
for the Financial Times. Noor is a Board member at the
University of Southern California, Brandeis University and
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Noor completed his
primary and secondary schooling from Karachi and holds a
BA and MBA from the University of Rochester.

Adil Najam
Adil Najam is the Inaugural
Dean of the Pardee School of
Global Studies at Boston
University and former Vice
Chancellor of the Lahore University
of Management Sciences (LUMS). He
was lead author for the 3rd and 4th
reports of the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change (IPCC), work for which
the IPCC was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace
Prize. A renowned expert on global
development, environment and higher
education, Dr. Najam has published over 100
academic papers and over a dozen books. Apart
from many international boards and commissions, he
serves on the UN Secretary General’s Committee on
Development Policy. A past winner of MIT’s Goodwin
Medal for Effective Teaching and the Fletcher School
Paddock Teaching Award, he was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz
by the President of Pakistan. Dr. Najam holds a B.Engg from
Lahore’s University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and an
SM and PhD from MIT.

Ali Naqvi
Ali Naqvi is the Executive
Chairman of Global Markets,
Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse, a
business which has revenues of
over USD 1.5 billion, over USD 60
billion in assets and a team of over
1,000 people spread over 18 offices. For
25 years, he has advised governments,
corporates and global investors on
economic transformations and capital
markets of Asia in general and China in
particular. He has been involved in capital raising
transactions worth over USD 1 trillion including
landmark transactions like Alibaba’s IPO, the largest
IPO globally. An avid supporter and collector of art, his
AAN collection is the largest collection of Pakistani art
globally with over 800 artworks and having been
exhibited in over 40 global institutions. He owns Islamabad
United, the winning team of the inaugural Pakistan Super
League cricket championship. Ali was trained as an electrical
engineer from Lahore’s University of Engineering and
Technology (UET) and has an MBA from the Lahore University of
Management Sciences (LUMS).

Dr. Azra Raza
Azra Raza is the Chan Soon-Shiong
Professor of Medicine and Director of
the MDS Center at Columbia University in
New York. She is considered an
international authority on pre-leukemia
(MDS) and acute leukemia and is one of those
rare physician-scientists who divide their time
equally between caring for patients and
supervising a state-of- the-art basic research lab. She
is the recipient of numerous awards including The
Hope Award in Cancer Research 2012 (shared with the
Nobel Laureate Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn). She was named
as one of the 100 Women Who Matter by Newsweek
Pakistan. She is a dedicated reader of English, Urdu, and
Persian literature. Dr. Raza holds an MBBS from Dow Medical
College, Karachi University.

Shiza Shahid

establishing Careem’s position as a pioneering institution dedicated
to a meaningful mission.
Abbas Valliani
Abbas Valliani is the President
and CEO for Infinitelogic, Inc, an
investment holding company
using capital in the form of debt or
equity to invest in public traded
companies. Prior to Infinitelogic Inc, Mr.
Valliani founded Primatics Financial, a
financial software firm that he grew to
more than 200 employees, later
re-capitalized by the Carlyle Group in 2010
and acquired by SS&C in 2015 for USD 122
million. At Primatics, he led the strategy and
investments of the company and developed the
initial versions of the software subsidized by client
revenue. He also led the company during the period of
its most significant growth from inception of the
company to USD 16 million in revenue within 12 months.
Abbas completed his primary and secondary schooling in
Karachi and has a Bachelor's in Systems Engineering from
University of Virginia where he graduated with highest honors
as a Rodman Scholar.
