physical body. As human beings, all are equal although they may
have different colour and religion and may belong to different
culture, race and cast. This is the basic principle of the Islamic
social system. Salvation can be attained only by faith in God and
by doing good deeds. Nevertheless, Islamic values are based on
truth, honesty and respect of humanity. The standard of morality
and ethical principles are comprehensively commended in the
Quranic verses. In fact, in their creation as human beings all men
stand on the same footing and are given equal opportunities and
facilities to develop their individuality and to attain their
salvation. This lies in the Divine likes, dislikes and the majestic
virtues – patience, tolerance, deeds of goodness. Man, according
to the Quran is made in best of the moulds: “We have indeed
created man in the best of moulds” – (Tin: 4). But in order to
fulfill his high destiny he was given free-will to a limited extent.
The wrong use of this free will makes his nature weak: “God doth
wish to lighten your (difficulties) for man was created weak (in
flesh)” – (Nissa : 28) or hasty: “The prayer that man should make
for good, he maketh for evil; for man is given to hasty (deeds)” –
(Bani Israil : 11) or impatient, as: “Truly man was created very
impatient” – (Maarij : 19). That becomes his nature by his own
act, but he is spoken of as so created because of the capacities
given to him in his creation. The Quran says:
32
They ask thee
Concerning women’s courses.
Say: They are
A hurt and a pollution:
So keep away from women
In their courses, and do not
Approach them until
They are clean.
But when they have purified themselves,
Ye may approach them
In any manner, time or place
Ordained for you by God.
For God loves those
Who turn to Him constantly
And He loves those
Who keep themselves pure and clean. (Baqra : 222)
33
They change the words
From their (right) places
And forget a good part
Of the Message that was
Sent them, nor wilt thou
Cease to find them –
Barring a few – ever
Bent on (new) deceits:
But forgive them, and overlook
(Their misdeeds): for God
Loveth those who are kind. (Maida : 14)
34
From evil and believe, –
(Or) again, guard themselves
From evil and do good.
For God loveth those
Who do good. (Maida : 96)
35
Ye have entered into alliance
And who have not subsequently
Failed you in aught,
Nor aided any one against you.
So fulfill your engagements

Of their term: for God
Loveth the righteous. (Tauba : 4)
36
To Our Paths:
For verily God
Is with those
Who do right. (Ankabut : 69)

Me; I will remember
You. Be grateful to Me,
And reject not Faith. (Baqra : 152)
37
For God loveth not
Any vainglorious boaster,– (Hadid :23)
O ye who believe!
Let not some men
Among you laugh at others:
It may be that
The (latter) are better
Than the (former):
Nor let some women
Laugh at others:
It may be that
The (latter) are better
Than the (former):
Nor defame nor be
Sarcastic to each other,
Nor call each other
By (offensive) nicknames:
Ill-seeming is a name
Connoting wickedness,
(To be used of one)
After he has believed:
And those who
Do not desist are
(Indeed) doing wrong.
O ye who believe!
Avoid suspicion as much
(As possible): for suspicion
In some cases is a sin:
And spy not on each other,
Nor speak ill of each other
Behind their backs. Would any

Of you like to eat
The flesh of his dead
Brother? Nay, ye would
Abhor it. But fear God:
For God is Oft-Returning,
Most Merciful. (Hujrat : 11 – 12)
and God
Guides not the rebellious. (Tauba : 24)
39
Those who do wrong. (Tauba : 19)
Is it not to God
That sincere devotion
Is due? But those who
Take for protectors others
Than God (say): “We only
Serve them in order that
They may bring us nearer
To God.” Truly God
Will judge between them
In that wherein they differ.
40
But God guides not
Such as are false
And ungrateful. (Zumar : 3)
41
And Prayer: for God is with those
Who patiently persevere.
42
The faults of His servants; – (Furqan : 58)

Of righteousness, –
Be they male or female –
And have faith,
They will enter Heaven,
And not the least injustice
Will be done to them. (Nisaa : 124)
43
For God did take
Abraham for a friend (Nisaa : 125)
44
Are the designs they frame therein,
And of no effect
Are the deeds that they do! (Hud : 15, 16)
It is not righteousness
That ye turn your faces
Towards East or West;
But it is righteousness –
To believe in God
And the Last Day,
And the Angels,
And the Book,
And the Messengers;
To spend of your substance,
Out of love for Him,
For your kin,
For orphans,
For the needy,
For the wayfarer,
45
For those who ask,
And for the ransom of slaves;
To be steadfast in prayer,
And practice regular charity;
To fulfill the contracts
Which ye have made;
And to be firm and patient,
In pain (or suffering)
And adversity,
And throughout
All periods of panic.
Such are the people
Of truth, the God-fearing. (Baqra : 177)
46
And openly; and turn off Evil
With good : for such is
The final attainment
Of the (Eternal) Home, – (Rad : 22)

Persevere in patience
And constancy; vie

Strengthen each other;
And fear God;
That ye may prosper. (Al-i-Imran : 200)
And to all
Are (assigned) degrees
According to the deeds
47
Which they (have done),
And in order that (God)
May recompense their deeds,
And no injustice be done
To them. (Ahqaf : 19)
As to the Righteous,
They will be in the midst
Of Gardens and Rivers,
In an Assembly of Truth,
In the Presence of
A Sovereign Omnipotent. (Qamar : 52-55)
48
Them according to
The best of their deeds. (Ankabut : 7)
49
Until it complies with
The command of God;
But if it complies, then
Make peace between them
With justice, and be fair:
For God loves those
Who are fair (and just).

Reading, writing and scientific research holds supreme in
the Quranic teachings. The first five verses of the very first verses
that were revealed to the Prophet, speak of reading and writing.
Thus the use of reading and writing for the purpose of learning
new and unknown sciences marks the advent of the Quran into
the world. The Divine Book says:
He Who taught
(The use of) the pen, –
51
O ye who believe!
Fear God, and (always) say
A word directed to the Right: (Ahzab : 70)
Say to My servants
That they should (only) say
Those things that are best:
For Satan doth sow
Dissensions among them:
For Satan is to man
An avowed enemy. (Bani Israil : 53)
O ye who believe!
Why say ye that
52
Which ye do not?
Grievously odious is it
In the sight of God
That ye say that
Which ye do not. (Saff : 2-3)
Kind words
And the covering of faults
Are better than charity
Followed by injury.
God is free of all wants,
And He is Most Forbearing. (Baqra : 263)

Fulfill (all obligations. (Maida : 1)
Woe to every
(Kind of) scandal-monger
And backbiter, (Humza : 1)
“O my son! establish
Regular prayer, enjoin what is
53
Just, and forbid what is wrong:
And bear with patient constancy
What’er betide thee; for this
Is firmness (of purpose)
In (the conduct of) affairs.
“And be moderate
In thy pace, and lower
Thy voice; for the harshest
Of sounds without doubt
Is the braying of the ass”. (Luqman : 17-19)
54
And hold your peace:
That ye may receive Mercy.
Oh ye who believe!
Give your response to God
And His Apostle, when He
Calleth you to that which
Will give you life;
And know that God
Cometh in between a man
And his heart, and that
It is He to Whom
Ye shall (all) be gathered. (Anfal : 24)
It is He Who has
Taught the Quran.
55
Say: “Call upon God, or
Call upon Rehman:
By whatever name ye call
Upon Him (it is well):
For to Him belong
The Most Beautiful Names.

Nor speak it in a low tone,
But seek a middle course
Between”. (Bani Israil : 110)
56

That are blind, but their
Hearts which are
In their breasts. (Hajj : 46)

Ask not questions
About things which,
If made plain to you,
May cause you trouble
But if ye ask about things
When the Quran is being
Revealed, they will be
Made plain to you.
God will forgive those:
For God is Oft – forgiving,
Most Forbearing. (Maida : 104)
57
The (plans) that ye form. (Ankabut : 45)

Will be enquired into
(On the Day of Reckoning) (Bani Israil : 34)
58
Used to mock at! (Ahqaf : 26)
O ye who believe!
Put not yourself forward
Before God and His Apostle;
But fear God: for God
Is He Who hears
And knows all things.
O ye who believe!
Raise not your voices
Above the voice of the Prophet,
59
Nor speak aloud to him
In talk, as ye may
Speak aloud to one another,
Lest your deeds become
Vain and ye perceive not.
O ye who believe!
If a wicked person comes
To you with any news,
Ascertain the truth, lest
Ye harm people unwittingly,
And afterwards become
Full of repentance for
What ye have done. (Hujrat : 1-6)
60
O Consorts of the Prophet!
Ye are not like any
Of the (other) women:
If ye do fear (God),
Be not too complaisant
Of speech, lest one
In whose heart is
A disease should be moved
With desire: but speak ye
A speech (that is) just.
61
And pursue not that
Of which thou hast
No knowledge; for
Every act of hearing,
Or of seeing,
Or of (feeling in) the heart
Will be enquired into
(On the Day of Reckoning).

Command what is right;
But turn away from the ignorant. (Araf : 199)

Took away your hearing
And your sight, and sealed up
Your hearts, who – a god
Other than God – could
Restore them to you?”

The Signs by various (symbols);
Yet they turn aside. (Anam : 46)
He prayed: “O my Lord!
I have indeed wronged my soul!
Do Thou then forgive me!“

Is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Qasas : 16)
