2017-2018 Girls Indoor Track Preview

The Indoor Girls Track is looking forward to a promising winter season that waits ahead of them
after succeeding in several championships, including the New England Championships and the
CT Open Championships. The girls placed second overall in last years FCIAC championship
with outstanding scores in several events.

Dedicated seniors, Anna Landler, Katie Bracken, Julia Hergenrother, Sammy Pettruzzelli,
Julia Mcspedon and Madeline Guter are hoping to finish their final indoor season on top and
have vast amounts of confidence.

Sammy Pettruzzelli, 4 year sprinter, discus thrower, long jumper and hurdler, has competed in
the New Balance Nationals Indoor, O’Grady relays, the FCIAC and CIAC Championships, and
the Somers-Lions Invitation meets multiple times as well as her fellow seniors. Pettruzzelli
principal event, the 300 meter hurdles, has qualified her for these optimal events and as a prime
athlete of the Girls Indoor Track and Field team.

Anna Landler, sprinter, hurdler, long jumper, shop putter, triple jumper and long distance runner,
has competed in the FCIAC Girls Championship, CIAC Class LL OTF Championship, and the
CIAC State Open OTF Championship as well as many prestigious meets in her 4 years of indoor
track.

After the graduation and loss of several outstanding seniors, including Ashlyn Marr and Rachel
Maue, the girls are facing a season with a team composed primarily of sophomores and juniors;
although that should not be an issue with the amount of dedication these girls have.

Tess Pisanelli, sophomore and varsity member, was part of the 1st place team of runners in
4x800 relay event of last years FCIAC as well as placed 4th in the 1600m event. Pisanelli has
been majorly successful in fall cross country as well as both indoor and outdoor track.

Junior and long distance runner, Gabby Viggiano placed 5th in the 1600m at the FCIAC
championship, coming about 2 seconds behind Tess Pisanelli. Viggiano was also a member of
the 1st place 4x800 team and the 3rd place 4x400 team.

Also a junior, Kasey Mcgerald, placed 3rd in the 1000m event at last year's FCIAC and was a
part of the 3rd place relay team of the 4x400m event. Mcgerald is a promising runner with her
best events being long distance.

The captains for this season, Julia Hergenrother, Anna Landler, Sammy Pettruzzelli, and Julia
Mcspedon trust in themselves and in their fellow teammates that this indoor season could be
their chief season. The girls are also hoping a substantial amount of new FCIAC qualifiers in the
current freshman who haven't run alongside them, yet.

Head coach, John Goetz, and assistant coaches, Nora Mcgrath and Bill Owens, are aiming for a
successful season. They are hopeful that the girls will pull through and work together to lead the
team to an FCIAC championship.

The season begins with an early morning practice on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

This is really thorough. It could have used a little trimming and reorganizing.
