The Japanese occupation of the Philippines was the period of Philippine

History from 1942 to 1945, during World War II , when the Japanese
Empire invaded the Philippines which was formerly under or under the power of
the United States .
During World War II , the Japanese army bombed the Philippines on December 8, 1941.
It took place one day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor , Hawaii , and the United
States . After a few weeks, retreated as General Douglas MacArthur with
the government of Manuel L. Quezon who was serving as President of the
Philippines. The Japanese military entered Manila on January 2, 1942. Bataan
succumbed to the Japanese forces on April 9, 1942. The prisoners of war were hired by
the Japanese (the so-called Martsa of Death ) into a concentration camp in Capas in the
province of Tarlac . [1]
After the collapse of Bataan in Japanese hands, MacArthur went to Australia . He was
replaced by Corregidor's General Jonathan Wainwright , to continue the fight, until the
Filipinos and Americans were forced to surrender after 27 days. The occupation or
occupation of the Japanese in the Philippines lasted for three years. The Japanese
established their only national government, which serves as president Jose P.
Laurel . [1]
In October 1944, the war broke out in the Philippines from the Japanese as the forces of
Douglas MacArthur landed in Leyte Peninsula. Sergio Osmeña was proclaimed as the

Director General. It aims to oversee the political, economic and cultural activities of the
Philippines.

The military administration has implemented a law originating in Tokyo. These include
the presence of Curfew and Black out in Manila. It declares martial law. Guns and
firearms were confiscated. Any action against the Japanese conforms to death. The
military declared that every Japanese who was killed could be beaten by the killing of
ten prominent Filipinos. Citizens of countries belonging to Allied Powers are placed in
the Concentration Camps in Baguio, Los Banos, Manila and so on.

Executive Committee of the Philippines-On January 23, 1942, the Japanese


established the Philippine Executive Commission. It serves as the executive branch of
the Japanese government in the Philippines. This commission is headed by Jorge B.
Vargas, Mayor of Manila, has six departments: Internal, Justice, Finance, Education,
Health and Public Birth, Public Employment and Communications. Each Department is
headed by a Filipino commissioner and has his Japanese counselor. Planned Japanese
Advisers to monitor the conduct of officials and ensure that the programs implemented
are not against Japan. The Japanese Council of State also formed the adviser and
assistant of the Philippine Executive Commission.

The Commonwealth Government was established in 1935 to make Filipinos self-


employed but it was disrupted by World War II and the Japanese occupation.
December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Clark Air Base
December 10, 1941, the Japanese forces landed in Luzon.
January 2, 1942, Japan was forced to conquer Manila.
April 9, 1942, Filipinos and Americans in Bataan surrendered to Gen. Yamashita.
Most of the 36,000 Bataan defenders died at the deathless Death March.
October 20,1944, American forces return to the island of Leyte.
October 23,1944, the Commonwelth Government of the Philippines has been restored.
January 9, 1945, the US forces entered the Philippines under the leadership of
Gen. Douglas MacArthur arrived in Manila on February 4 and recovered it within three
weeks.
July 4, 1946, when the Philippines achieved freedom from the United States under the
provisions of the McDuffie-Tyding's Act in 1934.
July 5, 1945, Washington declared the repatriation of the Philippines.
