 Chinese lunar year consists of 12 new moons with a thirteenth new moon

added every twelve years ( a lunar month does not have 31 days and in
some months only 29 days).
 Businesses open on 4th day, when gods are returning to earth
 7th day – birthday of MAN – Special food with raw fish prepared
 9th day important day for hokkiens – birthday of the Jade Emperor in
heaven. Marks the New Year for hokkiens, praying begins on the eighth
night after 11PM. People usually pray to tian kong with sugarcane. It is
believed that in the past the hokkiens in China were controlled by
demonic forces and did not have an opportunity to celebrate new year for
a long time. Jade Emperor took pity on them and there was a cosmic
battle between Jade Emperor and the demonic forces while the Hokkien
people hid in the sugar plantations.
 New year festival ends on the 15th day of the first lunar month. This is also
the lantern festival when moon is full.
