Flood Assessment Report, Swat

3rd August, 2010

Objectives:
 To know about the destruction and catastrophe in the target UCs.
 To collect the facts and figures of damages/death tolls due to flood.
 To assess the urgent/emergency basic needs of the affected
population, especially children and women.

Background:
As it is known that the recent wave of heavy rains continuing for the last few days has led
to heavy floods throughout the country. The same situation is prevailing in Swat Valley
as well and resulted in an unimaginative destruction in Swat. The first hand information
gathered by the community members such as ex-
nazims, CPGs etc were having some plus minus flaws
and now the reliable and authentic data collected by the
SPADO staff is available. This is the data that has been
collected from the field along with the pictures. The
fresh, complete and final data till now collected by the
SPADO Staff is being shared in this report. There are
some areas like Marghuzaar Valley where the access of
the staff is not possible as yet. This information states
that the damages are huge including both property and lives. If there is some new data
coming with the passage of time may be shared accordingly.

 Emergency Shelters are required for the evacuated population on

emergency basis.
 Most of the houses received heavy flood water and thus most of the
children and women are also in a need of clothes and shoes.
 Food items and medication like vaccine for snake bite and other skin
allergies and abdominal diseases is also required on emergency basis to
ensure the safety of the general population especially, children and
women.
 Clean drinking water is required on urgent basis otherwise it
would lead to other critical diseases such as cholera, diarrhea
dysentery etc.
