USING TECHNOLOGY TO EASE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEM IN METRO-MANILA

1. Identify the area to be covered by the concept and the solution. Explian clearly why
you have delimited the solution to specified area

C-3 Area: From Nlex Balintawak- A. Bonifacio to C-3 Rizal Avenue

This area is one of the places in metro-manila that suffer from traffic congestion every
day. Since it is connected from NLEX highway going to Port it is also designated as a
truck route highway going to port area and vice versa. Aside from big trucks, it is also a
buses and jeepnys route including private vehicles coming from nlex, novaliches area
which are going to the area of Sta. Cruz, Manila

2. Identify the traffic problems experienced in the area covered and the possible ill-
effects to the areas outside the covered areas.
Some of the factors that cause traffic congestion.

A. Public Utility bus/jeepney behavior. Public bus drivers operate with two or more of
the following goals in mind: a.) Complete the loading /unloading process and move to
the next stop, as quickly as possible. b.) Alternatively, linger at a stop, waiting for
additional passengers. d. Block other buses at loading points. In an attempt to prevent
moving competition from moving ahead to the next stop, buses routinely obstruct the
flow of the traffic by positioning themselves to block other buses.
B. Turn lane behavior. Turning from one road to another requires vehicles to stop and
wait for an opening in cross traffic.
C. Don’t have designated truck lane for trailer truck, dump trucks and other big vehicle.
Because trailer trucks don’t have one lane policy, they always occupy any of the lane
in the roadway.
Possible ill- Effects
a. Traffic congestion
b. Delayed delivery of products
c. Delayed business transactions

3. Formulate the concept to solve the problem.

Operating system in which the plan terms of signalized intersections are optimized
according to parameters such as the volume of traffic created, queuing and new terms are
implemented in real time manner with the purpose of minimizing the vehicle passage
times and average stops in a road network. Install a magnetic censored plate each lane of
the roadway prior to the approach in intersection let say 100m away from the traffic light
intersection. All the vehicle that passes through will be counted. Now it will be detected
which area is more congested before the junction. The data will be the basis to
manipulate the traffic light command.

4. Identify the steps to implement the solutions using specific technology/technologies

and the corresponding infrastructure to support the solution or solutions.
• Buy a software system
• Install the software and necessary equipment
• Perform test if the software is capable of the area
• Implement the usage of the system

5. Show how you conceptualized the system to work and formulate ways and means to
measure how effective it will be once implemented.
The idea can help minimize traffic congestion by means of smooth flow of traffic giving
more time to those congested area to flow smoothly.

System process
Measured Traffic volumes and occupancy data that are received from sensors are eliminated
from outlier data by processing them through filtering layer and volume and occupational data
are generated.
It is determine that the counts that are being received from sensors belong to the flow of which
directions.

The systems will prevents the problem for growing at exit road by sending excess number of
vehicles from one entry by applying proper signal timings in case of where the exit section is not
properly working and provides contribution to faster solution

6. Provide related information where si,ilar technology were used and how effective
was the solution. This should create a resemblance to the solution provided and
provide assurance that it will also work here in Metro- Manila.
