Overview of Chemical Industries; what all can be called chemical industry. Typical aspects of
interest in a chemical plant.

Lecture 3
Types of processes found in a typical chemical plant and types of materials likely to be
encountered. Relevant properties of interest of these different types of materials. Examples.

Lecture 4
Typical solid, liquid and slurry handling processes in a chemical plant.

Lecture 5
Typical gas handling processes in a chemical plant. Idea of reactors: continuous stirred tank
reactor and plug flow reactor. Development of process flow diagram of a Sulfuric acid
manufacturing plant.
