Mon 06 International The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is an international treaty aimed at
Plant Protection securing international cooperation in controlling pests of plant and plant products
Convention (IPPC) (phytosanitary) and in preventing their international spread, and especially their
6 –10 Sept. 2010 introduction into endangered areas. The IPPC, ratified in 1952, was deposited with the
Trinidad Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) FAO and IICA are
collaborating to support this meeting which provides an opportunity for Member States in
the Caribbean to dialogue on the international standard setting process for phytosanitary
measures. A total of fourteen Caribbean countries will be represented at this specialized
technical meeting. Among the documentation distributed at the meeting includes two
handbooks published by IICA on Good Practices for Participation in Codex Alimentarius
meetings, and Good Practices for Participation in Meetings of the IPPC. These documents
provide all the relevant information necessary to guide participation in meetings of these
two important international agencies.

Wed 08 IICA Caribbean The Director General of IICA, Dr. Victor Villalobos will lead his first IICA regional meeting

Consolidating Representatives and Regional Specialists from the Caribbean region will gather to review
IICA’s Technical and internalize the Institute’s strategic plan and new MTP 2010-2014. The meeting will

Thur 09 10th EDF Action The European Development Fund (EDF) provides Community aid for development

and Economic CARICOM signed a Financing Agreement for a grant of €40.5M to support the
Partnership Caribbean Region in achieving its objective of regional economic integration and
Agreement (EPA) repositioning into the world economy. This EC funding came from the Caribbean

crucial for advancing work on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Fri 10 Technical Meeting The 10th EDF phase is similarly geared toward helping developing countries, including
on 10th EDF CARICOM, reap greater benefits from the globalization process; boost
CARICOM competitiveness; diversify exports and establish regional markets. The Economic
Integration and Partnership Agreement (EPA) will play a major role in achieving the above. The
CSME Support CSME likewise is designed to facilitate the pooling of the region’s financial,

insufficient water supplies, fish stocks management, biodiversity loss, waste and
toxic disposal and more recently climate change.
