REPORT

The research area which I have chosen is electric drives. Under this, I would like to work
on SERD (Slip Energy Recovery Drives). The below mentioned references have given the details
of the development in the same field since 1993.
[1] The compact type SERD scheme was introduced by PWM boost rectifiers and boost
chopper so as to make rotor current as sinusoidal. [4] The calculation of overlap angle was done
by hybrid model of induction motor and dynamic model of rotor rectifier. [14] State space
modeling and eigen value analysis had been considered based on simplified d-q dynamic model
which presents good accuracy. [2] Introduction of shunt chopper and inverting mode operation of
converter improved the performance particularly line power factor and overall system efficiency
and the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) made the absence of current transducers for current
feedback control loop in the circuit. [3] The robust and stable operation of the circuit was
improved against the parameters such as uncertainties and external load torque disturbances
using Sliding Mode (SM) controller and adaptive back stepping control techniques. [5] Fly wheel
compensation had been introduced for harmonic compensation. [6] Intel 8085 Micro Processor
implemented to control the speed, current and firing pulse generation and Z-domain transfer
function was derived. [7] The study of instantaneous power failure of the system was carried out
and the mathematical model of the same was derived. [9] Comparative study was made between
the application of Doubly Fed Induction Motor (DFIM) and Synchronous motor in this system
and choice was given to DFIM to wide variable speed SERD scheme. [10] The double circuit
construction of rotor in induction motor was introduced for improving the performance and the
problems were found in real time application. [11] The field oriented control introduces
minimization of rotor losses. [13] Matrix converter reduced the complexity in ac to ac
conversion and other independent control.
I would like to go through those implementations keenly and analyze the
difficulties of controlling the SERD scheme and try to rectify the same.
