The notion i’m going to deal with is the idea of progress.

To begin
with , i would like to give a definition of the subject. A progress is a
steady evolution towards a better stage . On the other hand , progress
can also be understood as an evolution which most of the cases
contributes making the world a better place . In relation to the notion,
the subject of my presentation will be india’s progress . In fact , No one
can deny that India has successfully moved from a developping country
to an emerging one . But why can’t we call it yet a developped nation ?
How did progress affect their cultures ?
First let’s speak about social progress . India is nowadays known as
the worldst largest democracy which is modeled like the british
parliamentary system although the old british oppression . In fact , with
the help of Gandhi , Indians had got their indipendence with non-violent
riots. We had seen a close-up shot which emphase the middle class
progress . In fact the scene depicts it modernity since these couples were
wearing casual clothes compared to the traditional sahri rules. Also they
are looking at those skycrapers on the background . I guess it is to show
that they hope to be part of this triving india . Moreover if we look
closer, we notice that those families are limited to two childrens only. As
a matter of fact , they had to reduce their ability to give birth on XXe
century in order to face the babyboom and reduce by the way the social
gap.
In addition to this , the governement managed some microcredits
to the underprivileged and needy workers . in fact , a little article of the
SEE change Magazine published on the 7th december 2010 reveals that
the « loans » which started the microfinance revolution has been used by
dalits , formerly known as untouchables, to extricate themselves and
their families from poverty. That is to say that helpless people can , more
or less be on equal footing with the others .
Thirdly , through time , Indian’s mind became westernized . They
built a fake Disneyland named The kingdom of Dreams which is their
first live entertainement complex . This palace implies a new way of
thinking . I mean it sides with a kind of mind’s shift which appeals to the
citizens . Another example illustrate this situation : on the 9 august 2006
a new trend appeared on movie theatres : the bollywood mania . It is
said that in the USA , Mumbai megastars are bigger than Hollywood
stars like Tom cruise or Brad Pitt . There is no doubt that social progress
is real.
Besides , India has developped , during this last half century a
consumer society. It includes lots of fields such as cars , fastfood or even
IT . Yet India is getting more and more innovated . In fact , Dev Assan
has replied on the network that he is proud of the Tata nano product .
Also , on 2010 , a survey about Generic drug sales in 6 important
countries points out that India products and sells about 87% outside , 12
level more than US . What an outstanding situation . it proves that
India’s pharmaceutical industry is one of the nation’s largest sectors as it
is mentionned on the 21 august 2012 , in a journalist web post taken from
worldtime.com. we shouldnt forget that India used to offer low cost
surgeries with high qualificated doctors . Then a high production of
drugs attracts Medical tourism. Obviously cheap drugs has higly
increased the GDP of india . As a result it managed many opportunities
to the Expats , non resident indians who are coming back home . No
need to emigrate to get well graduated because they can try their best on
their homeland .
India is a prosper land . Still there are many challenges . what are they ?

There are more and more newborns in India . We shouldnt forget

the expats . That is to say that India is going to face all kind of pollution
problems like the airpollution , the garbage due to the traficjump and
also the chemical water pollution. In fact , a reort published on 30
september 2011 point out that over the last 50 years , chemical plants
textile mills , distilleries are discharged directly into the sacred
river « Gange » . In order to clean it it is going to cost billions of dollars
and decades.
In addition to this , Education is still a big challenge . no one can denie
that countryside isnt developped enough compared to cities.
It is said that in 2011 the census indicated a 2001 to 2011 declining
literacy growth of 9.2 . Great but on the other hand , there is a quart of
the population who still doenst have access to education , a quart of 1.2
billions of people . This problem can be related to the first one since ways
to avoid garbage , trafficjumps can be teached on « schools » .
Finally , Genderside can be considered as the worst challenge that India
has to face . Over all , It is a violation of human’s right. One of it sides is
the Dowry System . We have seen on our textbook an extract of a book
called Another girl which deals with this subject showing that women
are priceless , defenceless and dreadful . Kavita’s husband , Jasu resent
having girls . Moreover 88 % of mens are literated compared to 77%
only for women . Furthermore , in a recording we had discovered that in
a village called Karou there are 3 more times men then women. They
should have the same statement as the human rights insist on it .
To conclude , we can say that India is growing at a very fast rate in all
sectors as technology , IT , infrastructures and education . Neverthless
there are many contradictions which should be considered . It is a
country on the march but will be once a developped one .
