Mr. Jason Nodurft, Substation Engineer

Facilities
Power Engineers, Inc.
7600 North 16th street
Suite 130
Phoenix, AZ 85020

Dear Mr. Nodurft:

I am writing in response to your advertisement on your company’s website. I am a senior who

will be graduating with my electrical engineering degree with an emphasis in power from
Washington State University. I learned about your company from a fellow student and after
researching about your company, I feel that I would have an exciting and rewarding experience
working for your company. I hope that you will give me the opportunity to do so.

My education at Washington State has given me a strong background in power systems and how
to analyze them. I have taken a power system analysis course and I am currently enrolled in a
protective relay course. I have learned from these courses that I have a strong interest for
substation design and power distribution. I have completed projects to analyze power systems
and the effects of different faults in the system. I am currently learning about substation designs
and different protection components. My senior design project is the Mitigating Reverse Power
Flow Due to Distributed Generation on Networked Secondary Distribution Systems. I am working
with three other students and our client is Avista. I feel that this project has given me a better
understanding of some of the challenges in the distribution of power.

I look forward hopefully working for Power Engineers, Inc. to further understand substations and
power distribution. I have included my resume with this document and I hope to hear from you
about the entry level electrical engineer position. Please feel free to contact me anytime at (206)
326-9488 or send me an email at abdirahman.ugas@wsu.edu. Thank you very much for your
consideration for this position.

Yours truly

Abdirahman Ugas
