Grades of Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes for Various

Applications

Use of stainless steel pipes is widespread throughout the manufacturing, fabrication, and
construction industry. Their versatility helps manufacturers and industrialists make their products
and make the delivery on time.

Making aircraft tubing

Though we say we use stainless steel pipes, we need steel pipes having specific characteristics
for each application. For instance, for the aircraft tubing, we need high strength stainless steel.
These are work hardened or welded but you must not use the work hardened stainless steel
where you have contact with corrosive substances. Usually, chromium and nickel type stainless
steels find use in the manufacture of high-strength aircraft tubing.

For your applications, you can ask the Welded Stainless Steel Pipe Manufacturers in
Mumbai for their quote. You have one more type of aircraft tubing called the aircraft hydraulic
line tubing. This pipe we use for the fuel injection lines and the hydraulic systems in the aircraft.
We use 304 or 304L stainless steel for making these parts. This type of steel has high ductility
and corrosion resistance.

Seamless steel tube

Welded stainless steel is different from seamless stainless steel. In the seamless stainless steel,
the tube or pipe we fashion from one solid block of steel. This is the billet that we draw over a
form to get the pipe. Since there are no joints this type of pipe is structurally superior to the
others. It does not corrode so easily either. But for most of the common applications such as for
transporting water or oil, the welded stainless steel pipes are enough.
Another important application for the stainless steel pipes is in the food industry where
sanitation is a priority. We make use of sanitary grade stainless steel for two reasons – it is
corrosion resistant and it is easy to clean. In a typical application, we use ASTM A270 grade
stainless steel. We can choose different tolerances for different applications. You can check
your specifications with the Welded Stainless Steel Tubes Suppliers and see if they have that
quality of tubes for you.

High-pressure stainless steel pipes

The next is the stainless steel pipes used in high-pressure applications. These pipes need
chromium and nickel combination or solid chromium. The various types of high-pressure pipes
include the welded pipes and seamless pipes. You also have electric fusion welded pipes and
large diameter welded pipes for high-temperature applications. Usually, we use seamless and
welded ferritic pipes along with austenitic stainless steel pipes in these situations.

For cylinders, bearings, and all such allied products that make up the hollowed parts, we use
ASTM A511 and A554 grade stainless steel. We can manipulate the tubing to have more types
of cross-sectional shapes such as square or a rectangle. This is in addition to the traditional
shapes such as the round tubing cross section.
When you make the weld in the welded pipes, the amount of filler material and its type makes a
difference to the life of the tube. This is because exposure to high temperatures for a long time
reduces the sensitivity of the steel. This makes it corrode fast. If you take a little care while
welding, your pipes will have high quality.
