David and Goliath- from 1 Samuel 17

Notes: This script was written for performance by children with an adult playing Goliath.
Narrators stand off to one side. Group the actors in two group- Philistines on one side,
Israelites on the other.

Narrator 1: The Philistines gathered their forces for war against Israel. A champion
named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was very, very
tall and covered with armor. He defied Israel saying,

Goliath: (stepping forward) Choose a man to fight me! If he kills me, we will become
your subjects; but if I win, you will become our subjects and serve US! (Israelites
shudder in fear)

Narrator 2: (David enters) A young shepherd named David, came into the camp of Israel,
bringing supplies. When he arrived he heard about Goliath.

Israelite 1: (to David) Do you see that man? He comes to challenge Israel.

Israelite 2: King Saul has offered a great reward for anyone who can kill him.

David: Who does he think he is, defying the armies of the Living God?

Narrator 1: King Saul heard about what David said and called him over.

David: (bows) Don’t worry because of this Philistine, I, your servant will go fight him.

Saul: You can’t fight him. You are only a boy and he is a great warrior!

David: I can protect sheep from wild animals. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of
the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.

Saul: Go, and the Lord be with you.

Narrator 2: Saul first gave David his armor and David tried it on but it just didn’t feel
right. (pause) Instead he took his staff and sling and found 5 smooth stones. (pause)
When Goliath saw David coming, he laughed…

Goliath: Am I a dog that you come after me with sticks? Come here and I will make you
food for the wild animals! (Goliath laughs, all the Philistines laugh. Philistines makes a
funny face at David and then hides behind Saul)

David: You come with a sword but I come in the Name of the Lord Almighty, the God of
the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my
hands, for the battle is the Lord’s.

Narrator 1: (actors act as described) David and Goliath moved toward each other. David
picked a stone from his bag and slung it and struck Goliath on the forehead and Goliath
fell facedown, dead.
Narrator 2: The Philistine army was scared and ran away (run off stage) and the Israelites
pursed them (run after them) and won the battle- because the Lord truly was with them.
