 Hey Gang! Happy New Year! I hope you’ve enjoyed the Christmas Season
and now that January is upon us what are we ever going to do to top 2017.
I’m often amazed at the wise words of many coaches who have held the
Waterford Crystal Ball Championship trophy and how they responded to the
questions of how long will they relish the victory. Interestingly enough many
of them say only for the night or for the next few days and then back to work
because they know there’s always a new level of where they must go or a
new level to attain. The same is true in our walk with the Lord. I’m sure you
have heard it said, “if you aren’t moving forward then you must be backslid-
ing” I think that was an Adrian Rogers quote from years ago. How true is
that? The notion that we get to a place where we “think” we have plateaued
and are satisfied with where we are is actually a myth. There is no such place
where we actually can say we have arrived. Even the Apostle Paul says that
he has yet to lay hold of it,” I don't mean to say that I have already achieved
these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to pos-
sess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me”. (NLT Phil
3:12). We must press on in pursuit of Christ, which means we must press in
to HIM. I’ll never forget what Jim Collins wrote in Good to Great, “we must
realize the enemy of Greatness lies in the satisfaction of being merely good
enough and thus we stop striving for the greatness we can achieve.” Let us
never be satisfied with merely being barely good when our Great God has
called us to ACHIEVE GREAT things by HIS GREAT POWER for HIS
GREAT KINGDOM!
