Severe Weather Underway Checklist (also Tsunami)

Time Procedure Log Entry

 Inform Master/Staff Captain

 Watch condition change – consider yellow/red 

 ECR – brief - consider propulsion mode/engines on line/environmental 

 Open decks - consider closing

 Pools – close/nets - consider draining 

 Stabilizers out 

 WTD’s – consider closing 

 Tsunami: 100 meter contour/deepest water – Brief/change course/speed 

 Mooring lines/anchors/weather tight doors/hatches – Check/secure

 Shell doors - Check/secure - establish patrols, Monitor via CCTV

 Outer/sports/pool deck - Check/secure – deck chairs/garbage bins/equipment

 Lifesaving appliances on outer decks – Check

 Check/secure heavy/loose objects – luggage carts/stores/equipment

 Deadlights/window covers - Consider 

 Stability – check - reduce free surface/improve for sea/wind conditions 

 Post proper signs on doors leading to the open decks

 Monitor ship's side continuously

 Weather/tsunami forecast/alerts/warnings/routing – monitor/plan

LOG: Significant measures in the Log Book. 

 INFORM AND KEEP INFORMED:

ECR/Chief Engineer

Hotel personnel (Director/Housekeeping/Cruise)

Shore side personnel (Fleet Captain/Sitrep) – if necessary

Passengers and crew
