Introduction

The introduction of the Software Requirements Specification (SRS) provides an overview of the
entire SRS with purpose, scope, definitions, acronyms, abbreviations, references and overview of
the SRS. The aim of this document is to gather and analyze and give an in-depth insight of the
complete Marvel Electronics and Home Entertainment software system by defining the
problem statement in detail. Nevertheless, it also concentrates on the capabilities required by
stakeholders and their needs while defining high-level product features. The detailed
requirements of the Marvel Electronics and Home Entertainment are provided in this
document.

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of the document is to collect and analyze all assorted ideas that have come up to
define the system, its requirements with respect to consumers. Also, we shall predict and sort out
how we hope this product will be used in order to gain a better understanding of the project,
outline concepts that may be developed later, and document ideas that are being considered, but
may be discarded as the product develops.

In short, the purpose of this SRS document is to provide a detailed overview of our software
product, its parameters and goals. This document describes the project's target audience and its
user interface, hardware and software requirements. It defines how our client, team and audience
see the product and its functionality. Nonetheless, it helps any designer and developer to assist in
software delivery lifecycle (SDLC) processes.

1.2 Scope

This SRS is also aimed at specifying requirements of software to be developed but it can also be
applied to assist in the selection of in-house and commercial software products. The standard can
be used to create software requirements specifications directly or can be used as a model for
defining a organization or project specific standard. It does not identify any specific method,
nomenclature or tool for preparing an SRS.

1.3 Definitions, Acronyms, and Abbreviations

The Student Management System has to handle records for many number of students and
maintenance was difficult. Though it has used an information system, it was totally manual.
Hence there is a need to upgrade the system with a computer based information system.

1.5 Overview

The purpose this document is to present a detail description of student attendance with
fingerprint reader. This proposed system introduces a new automatic attendance management
system, which integrates fingerprint authentication into the process of attendance management
for student. It is made up of two processes namely; enrolment and authentication.
During enrolment, the biometrics of the user is captured and stored in a database as a template
for the subject along with the user’s ID. The objective of the enrolment module is to admit a user
using his/her ID and fingerprints into a database after feature extraction. These features form a
template that is used to determine the identity of the user, formulating the process of
authentication. The enrolment process is carried out by an administrator of the attendance
management system. During authentication, the biometrics of the user is captured again and the
extracted features are compared with the ones already existing in the database to determine a
match. After a successful match, attendance is marked against the user’s id used in matching the
templates.

2 Overall Descriptions

2.1 Product Perspective

2.2 Product Function

Level 0 DFD

2.3 User Characteristics

This system gives access of two types of users
1. Administrator: The personnel and College administrator will have administrator access to
add, delete and modify information stored in the database.
2. Authorized User: Teaching staff will have access to only view the data stored in the database
and can update the student’s attendance in the form of formatted reports.

2.4 Constraints:

The response time of the product is depending on the fingerprint machine which is
Connected to the computer.
The system cannot perform its task when one of the following is occurred:
1. If the fingerprint machine has got a problem.
2. If the program is corrupted.
3. If the server cannot work.
4. If the power has gone.
2.5 Assumption and dependencies:

The collage expects the student to get theie fingerprint scanned and get them registered for first
time. All student information will be available to the administrator.
The operation of the automated attendance system with fingerprint reader in which student
attendance depends on the number of lecture or practical hours he puts in.
