DSR -Dynamic System Resilience

Astro 7.17 Training

Author : Kobi Goldenberg

DSR -Dynamic System Resilience

 The concept of DSR based on the possibility toggle between the main
switch (active) switch in the backup.

 Switching can be performed manually - and automatically (under certain

conditions)

DSR -Dynamic System Resilience

Astro Systems has the need to create a full online Backup MSO location.

 A standby MSO (DSR MSO) shall be Located in a different location.

 The DSR MSO is connected at all times to the Main MSO – thus
synchronizing all the Data up to the critical moment.

 The DSR MSO needs to be monitored to assure it’s readiness at the

moment of need.

 Automatic switchover will take place when two of the Zone Controllers lost
Critical Communications Among themselves. (E.g. also ZC1 and ZC2 problem.

 There is no communication between the ZC switch components \ Sites

 Manual switchover can be done on the ZC controllers and can also be

enforced ( manually) on the management system

 Manual operation is required to transfer the UNC servers and UNC.

Re-entry is required on the application of management users under Backup

DSR – Zone Controller’s switching

Can be done in 2 ways:

From the EMC² application

(Voyence) - by choosing the desired
ZC to be active – then assign the value
of “1”.

From the Linux Sub-menu of the

Zone Controllers. Under the
redundancy administration.
DSR -Dynamic System Resilience
DSR – Mgmt System Switchover

Is Manually done by Disabling the

working server (Main).

Enabling the STBY server if that kind.

 the UNC / UCS server has a DSR

Management menus to control switchover
, sync’s etc…
DSR -Dynamic System Resilience
DSR – Mgmt System Switchover
 There is a scheduled syncronization every 24 Hrs at a given time – depends on
customer programming.
DSR -Dynamic System Resilience

When Will an Automatic Switchover occur ?

When MSO loses connectivity to all exterior elements.

When Zone Controllers 1+2 are un-able to take charge.
When Major Network elements had lost their capability / connectivity.

! RESULT

ZC’s will switchover on their own – no network management switchover –

only to keep “Wide-Trunking” operation and assure no end-user outage !!

• The centers are updated and

synchronized in real time!

The system can be expanded
further with a backup switch DSR.

• The expansion is immediate and

without impact to the operation

Other points worth knowing !!!

Zone Level Servers are sync’ed all the time between

Primary and DSR MSO’s.

Primary servers (System Level) perform automatic

synchronization once a day between themselves.

One can also initiate an immediate manual

synchronization when needed.

There is no possibility for Server mixture ( some of the

servers will switchover some will not ) NOT POSSIBLE !
