Sub Destroyer

Thank you for purchasing Sub Destroyer, a virtual instrument for creating explosive
low-end. I wanted to create a plugin that could help sculpt the low-end in my mixes and
audio productions with ease. I hope you share my enjoyment in what I’ve created and find it
useful in your next project.

Installation
Installing Sub Destroyer is very simple. There are two install types, one for Windows
and one for Mac. Each installer contains both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of all applicable
plugin formats for both platforms.

Windows
● Locate the setup exe file and double click it to begin the installation
● Step through the installer and be careful to read each step and provide desired options

Macintosh
● Locate the setup dmg file and double click it to mount the installer image
● This will create a new virtual drive in your Finder, open this drive and run the package
● Step through the installer and be careful to read each step and provide desired options

Both installers will ask you which folder location you’d like to install 32 bit and 64 bit plugins
respectively. You may also choose which plugin formats you’d like included with your install.

The formats that are available for Sub Destroyer are:

● VST2
● VST3
● AU
● RTAS
● AAX
Layout

1. Low Pass Filter

This is the frequency of the Low Pass filter on the output of the signal. The range is
from 100hz to 20kHz
2. Waveform
This is the waveform of the generated audio signal
3. Output
This is the overall volume of the output, ranging from -inf dB to 0 dB
4. Mode tabs
These tabs access the main functions of Sub Destroyer. There is one tab for each mode,
and then a final output tab that affects the entire signal overall.

Below the Mode tabs is the tab’s content which is unique to each tab. Next, the manual will
explain the modes and the output tab.
Modes
Sub Destroyer is organized by modes. There are three main modes of operation.

Automate
This mode allows you to control the frequency of a generated signal using automation.
The frequency can range from 20hz to 120hz. Use your DAW to automate the
frequency movements you want and then automate the fire button held in for the
amount of time you want Sub Destroyer to generate the signal (using the selected
waveform above) and then release when the signal should stop. This can be used to
generate any style and shape of bass drop you need.

Trigger
This mode allows you to setup preset bass drops or bass rises. The controls are start
frequency, end frequency, length, and fire. The start and end frequencies both range
from 20hz to 120hz. Length ranges between 200 and 8000 milliseconds. Once you’ve
set your start, end, and length values, press fire to hear the bass drop or rise. The
frequency changes will be linear. The most popular bass drop sound can be had by
setting start frequency to 60hz and end frequency to 20hz and length to 3000 ms. Use
the harmonic enhancement on the output tab to make the lower frequencies more
apparent.

Midi
This mode allows you to generate signals using midi notes. The volume knob allows
you to control the midi cc for volume. Velocity, another midi cc, is also respected.
Polyphonic will tell Sub Destroyer that you want to be able to perform more than one
note at the same time. If Polyphonic is not set, Portamento will be used to transition
from one to another during a note overlap. Use Portamento to set the amount of time
it takes to transition to the new note. The Reset button will allow you to cancel out all
midi note signals in case a midi note becomes stuck. Finally Pitch Bend allows you to
set the cap or limit on how far a full pitch bend will go. The range is two octaves in
both directions. This mode can be used to double your bass track, add a lower or higher
octave to your existing bass, or completely replace the low end of your bass altogether.
For the latter, just add a high pass filter at desired frequency and then use Sub
Destroyer in midi mode with a midi track mimicking the bass performance.
Output
This section of the plugin is used for processing the overall signal of Sub Destroyer.
There are three main sections.

Drive
The drive has three controls: drive, character, and enable. The Drive knob ranging
from 0% to 100% controls how much distortion is applied to the signal. The character
ranging from 0 to 10 will change the distortion sound, use your ears. The enable
control enables the drive module on the signal.

Harmonic Enhancement
This module is used to make the output of Sub Destroyer more apparent in your mix
and on speaker systems of all sizes. There are three controls: amount, crossover, and
enable. The Amount ranging from 0 to 10 adjusts how much of the enhancement is
audible. The Crossover ranging from 20hz to 250hz adjusts the low pass frequency at
which the enhancement is applied. The enable control enables the Harmonic
Enhancement module on the signal. I recommend having this on for anytime you’re
using Sub Destroyer for bass content because your low notes will be more audible.

Meter
The meter shows the output in decibels. Sub Destroyer has a built in limiter that will
prevent the signal from going over 0. You can see this reduction by using the GR
button. The IN button will display the signal before processing, and the OUT button
will display the signal after processing and after limiting. The range is from -20 dB to
+3 dB.
Functions
The controls have some additional functionality and alternate ways of interacting with
the controls via the following methods:

● Double Click / Right Click

○ This allows you to manually type in a number value for the control point
● Control or Command + Click
○ This allows you to reset the control point value back to default
● Shift + Click
○ This allows you to have a finer mode of control over the control point
● Right Click (VST3)
○ This allows you to access the automation menu supported by the VST3 format
JST Bar
The JST bar provides a few common functions across all JST Plugins. These functions
assist you during the use of the plugin with comparison and preset functions, setting banks,
and a help button to access this manual.

● JST Logo
○ Clicking this will display the “About Screen” which contains useful information
for troubleshooting or technical support issues as well as information about
who contributed to the creation of the plugin.
● A / B Bank button
○ Pressing this button stores all of the plugins settings into a bank, and then
switches to a secondary bank. At first, the secondary bank will copy all of the
settings from the initial bank to avoid confusion. Click the bank button to
compare settings from the two banks.
● Help Button
○ Pressing this button provides access to this manual.
