The study was entitled Speaking difficulties of students in
English language and the purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore the difficulties faced by the selected Senior High School HUMSS students in speaking the English language in Davao City National High School. This aims to answer the difficulties faced by Senior High School HUMSS students in speaking English; how should language teachers teach the English language in an understandable way. Purposive sampling was used in this study that yielded 6 participants. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data from the In-depth interview and Focus Group Discussion. For the difficulties faced by SHS HUMSS students in speaking English, the themes were challenge enunciating English language, strategies to be well converse in English, and uneasiness of students towards English. On how should teachers teach the English language in an understandable way, Alternative way of learning the language, Expound high falutin words, and Improve the usage of language were the themes that emerged. Lastly, the current study gives a brief understanding of the student’s experiences of how they have face difficulties on speaking the English language. It is interesting to include family orientations and environment of the student as a factor in bringing up a strong evidence of how it truly affects the performance of the student in the school and in the English discussion.
