College-wide Policies:
Viewpoint Tolerance
Some of the issues covered during the seminar may evoke strong emotions. Students, faculty
and staff must be able to disagree respectfully with others on topics that are personally very
important to them. Civility is essential to all scholarly discourse.

Expectations for Out-of-Class Time

For every one instructional credit hour in class, a student is expected to spend at least two hours
out-of-class studying, practicing, researching and working on assignments, and preparing for
minis. For a course that meets for 6 hours each week, a student is expected to spend at least 12
hours outside of class time doing related course work.

Requirements & Course Policies:

Attendance
Your punctual attendance is mandatory for your success in this course. You must prepare for and
attend every class, on time. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the period. If you arrive
after attendance is called, it will be your responsibility to check in at the end of the period.

Group Work
Working with others is an integral part of our model here at Guttman Community College. We
understand that this can be uncomfortable for some of you and our goal is to alleviate your
discomfort while helping you learn from this experience. If you have completed and understand
a task, you should look to help your classmates find the same confidence with it. Similarly, if there
is something you are having trouble with, turn to your group members, and other classmates,
if appropriate, before you ask me to intercede. Every student is expected to participate in every
assignment and, as a member of the class; it is your responsibility to be involved and to make sure
the other members of your class are also involved.

Electronic Devices
Cell phones, tablets, audio players, laptops, and desktop computers will be used in the classroom
ONLY for instructional purposes. Please turn off (or switch to airplane mode) and put away
electronic devices unless otherwise requested by the instructor. Any use of digital devices for non-
instructional purposes, excessive disruption in class, or lack of engagement in class will result in
disciplinary actions.
