Qualifying Process:
1) Demonstrated Environmental Interest and Essay
Students must have demonstrated an interest in the environment through summer work in
environmental-related activities, school projects, or long-term personal interest reflected in school,
community or outdoor activities, artwork, field notebooks or writing. Completed applications require an
essay outlining the student’s personal history of involvement with environmental issues and his/her
plans and hopes for future involvement/employment in environment-related activities.
Sanctuary Forest is a non-profit land trust located in Whitethorn, California. Our mission is to conserve the
Mattole River watershed and surrounding areas for wildlife habitat and aesthetic, spiritual and intrinsic values in
cooperation with our diverse community. We are committed to supporting the education of local young people to
help build the future economic and environmental health of Humboldt and Mendocino Counties.
