Automation Industry

Industrial automation is the use of control systems, such as computers or robots,

and information technologies for handling different processes and machineries in
an industry to replace a human being. It is the second step beyond
mechanization in the scope of industrialization. [1]

This is mainly done for safety compromising industries to increase safety as well
increasing the throughput and latency of an industrial process, achieving
relatively invariable quality, higher accuracy and greater flexibility, getting rid of
human error and reducing the cost of human labor.

This is a project aimed at designing a Palm Tree Climbing Robot in terms of

mechanics and control. The function of this device is to automatically execute a
certain series of motions by external command to climb a palm tree and then cut
branches carrying dates.
The project designed to utilize pneumatic systems as a mean of actuation. The
design process will include only the main climber body and its controls and
platform for attaching a robotic arm. The design process will not include the
design of the robotic arm.
The Robot consists mainly of two main similar body parts. These parts support
the pneumatic systems and the robotic arm necessary for the functioning of this
robot. The design is based on the assumption that the average palm tree
diameter is 30 - 50 cm wide.

Following is the initial design for the project. To be only considered a

sketch of the author's initial thoughts.
