Operation Safety Rules

The network management computer should be placed away from

direct sunlight, electromagnetic interference, heat source,
humidity and dust, and with at least 8cm distance from other
objects in order to keep good ventilation.

Use UPS power supply to avoid loss of network management

data caused by accidental power failure.

The computer case, UPS power supply and switch (or hub)
should be connected to protection earth ground.

To shut down the network management computer, first exit the

operation system normally and then shut off the power supply.

Don’t exit the network management system when it is working

normally. Exiting the network management system does not
interrupt traffic in the network, but precludes centralized control of
the networked equipment.

The network management computer cannot be used for purposes

other than network management. Use of unidentified memory
devices should be prohibited so as to avoid computer viruses.

Do not delete any file in the network management system

randomly or copy any irrelevant file into the network management
computer.

Do not visit Internet via the network management computer.

Doing so may increase data flow in the net card and hence affects
normal network management data transmission or results in other
accidents.

V
Do not perform service configuration or expansion during service
busy hours via the network management system.

Do not modify the network management computer’s protocol

settings, computer name or LAN settings randomly. Otherwise, it
may result in the abnormal operation of the network management
system.

1 New Features

The following introduces the new features of the ANM2000 (version: V3.0R2, Build:
05.07.06.06).

Optimized System Management Function

Adds the function of the ODN information importing in a batch manner via
background (Excel). This function eliminates the error caused by manual data
delivery, improves the efficiency, and saves the repetitive operation for maintainers.

Optimized Viewing Management Function

u Adds the ONU repetitive registration interception function. If one ONU is

authenticated but still keeps initiating registration, the repetitive registration will
be recorded by the ANM2000 to facilitate maintainers to view and eliminate
faults.

u Adds the mark query function. The mark on the system, card, port or ONU can
be saved to facilitate the operations below in the mark query GUI.

4 Check the marked item, display the ANM2000 user name, marked object
name and marked content.

4 Double-click the marked item to jump to the desired object.

4 Save the marked item into the format of Html, Excel or CSV.

4 Delete the marked item and the mark on the object will be removed.

Optimized Configuration Management Function

u Adds the service configuration management function. This function can display
all the configuration commands and a list of ONUs under the OLT object in the
object tree.

4 Provides the quick entrance for user service configuration.

4 Unifies the previous single Grid GUI into main GUI to keep the style
consistency.

4 The configuration menu of the service configuration management GUI is

not brought up by right-click, so as to improve the GUI friendliness.

Version: A 1-1
e-Fim ANM2000 Broadband Access Network Management System Operation Guide (Based on Windows)

u Optimizes the OLT registration management function. All the users can enter
the OLT Register Management GUI but only the members of the system
management user group can perform the operations of Initial All System OLT
Register and Initial Selected System OLT Register.

u Adds the function of home gateway configuration in a batch manner. Users can
set the start MAC address and end MAC address of the home gateway to be
authenticated in a batch manner.

u Adds the automatic device search function. The ANM2000 can search the
devices in the specified network segment automatically and synchronize the
searched devices to the object tree.

u Adds the function of NE name modification in a batch manner. Users can

modify the system names, logical domain names and ONU names to easy-to-
identify names in a batch manner. This function facilitates the united
management for users when the network is in large scale.

Optimized Statistics Management Function

u Adds the functions of data service source statistics, voice service source
statistics, bandwidth statistics and voice port occupation rate statistics.

u Optimizes the MGC resource statistics function. When a large number of MGC
resource exists, the ANM2000 receives in asynchronous mode, i.e., the
ANM2000 displays every 10 messages, decreasing the user waiting time.

u Optimizes the ONU user statistics function and adds the IP address display of
the OLT.

Optimized Alarm Management Function

u Adds the alarm forwarding function. If an alarm disappears in the pre-set alarm
forwarding time, this alarm will be filtered instead of being forwarded to users. If
the alarm still exists, the ANM2000 will send the alarm information to specified
ANM2000 users in messages using the GSM modem or ISMG, or in email
using the IP network.

u Adds the information of the MDU equipment IP address which reports alarms,
and the LOID and MAC address of SFU equipment.

u Adds the OLT IP address display in the current alarm, alarm history and saving
alarm items.

1-2 Version: A
1 New Features

u Adds the filtering function by ONU type when setting the alarm query
conditions.

u Adds the project alarm filtering function. This function filters the unconcerned
alarms and decreases the reported alarm number during the project installation,
commissioning, cutover and maintenance. This function facilitates users to
concern significant alarms, to improve the work efficiency, and to understand
the network communication quality.

u Adds the alarm association analysis function, supporting the analysis on the
root alarm and derived alarm caused by the same fault.

Optimized Security Management Function

u Optimizes the authorization and domain division operation.

4 When a user or a user group is bound with an operation group, the user or
user group has the read and write authority of this operation group, and the
read authority of all the command beyond the operation group.

4 When an added operation group binds the operation command to the user
or checks the operation command bound to the user, the group can fuzzy
match or exact match the operation command using the file filtering
function, so as to perform the quick command search.

u Optimizes the function of forcing the lower level user to leave. When the lower
level user is forced to leave by the online user from the system management
user group, the ANM2000 will save the topology of the lower level user.

u Adds the password authentication function of the LDAP third-party server. This
function integrates the ANM2000 authentication to the LADP server
authentication, prevents repetitive authentication when users accessing
different systems, and ensures the security of the system running in the
network environment.

Optimized Topology Management Function

Adds the function of equipment IP display in topology.

10.1 Authorization and Domain Division

Management

The authorization and domain division is an important strategy for the ANM2000 to
achieve the secure management. This section gives a brief introduction to the
authorization and domain division.

Background

The ANM2000 system supports the client side-server side networking. Figure 10-1
shows a typical structure in the practical application.

Figure 10-1 The Client Side - Server Side Networking

10-2 Version: A
10 Security Management

Under the above networking mode, the domain network management computer can
be a PC with a low configuration. As long as the PC has installed the ANM2000
system’s client, it can manage the equipment via accessing the center network
management system (server).

The above networking mode has one problem: The shared database allows the
user of one area to manage the equipment of another area, which brings the
security risk.

Authority and Domain Division

To solve the security problem, the ANM2000 supports the authorization and domain
division management function via the user group, operation group and object group
divisions.

u User group: Adds the users that need the integrated authority to the same user
group. Via distributing certain authorities to the user group, all the member
users are authorized with the rights of the group. The user group facilitates the
fast distribution of the user rights.

The ANM2000 supports the management user group, maintenance user group,
operation user group and monitor user group by default.

u Operation group: The collection of operation rights supported by the ANM2000.

When a user or a user group is bound with an operation group, the user or user
group acquires the operation rights of all operations in that group.

By creating an operation group and adding all the operation rights required by a
service to the operation group, users can distribute these operation rights to the
related user or user group as a whole, so as to achieve the fast distribution of
user rights. Based on the common user operations, the ANM2000 supports 34
operations groups by default.

u Object group: The collection of the equipment and objects that can be
managed by the ANM2000 system. When a user or a user group is bound with
an object group, the user or user group acquires the management rights of all
objects in that group.

By creating an object group and adding the objects that can be integrately
managed to the group, users can assign a user or user group to manage the
objects in that group, so as to reduce the management costs of the
administrators.

Version: A 10-3
e-Fim ANM2000 Broadband Access Network Management System Operation Guide (Based on Windows)

In the user management module, users can assign a user as the authorization and
domain limited user, and bind an operation group, an object group and a user group
to it, so as to enable the authorization and domain division function for the user.
When the user logs in via the client end, the ANM2000 GUI only displays the
equipment within the assigned object group, and the user can only perform the
operations belonging to the assigned operation group on the equipment.

Note:

1. The member of the system management user group must be a

global user. Only the member of the system management user group
can configure the rights for the limited user.

2. Acquiring the rights of the parent object means acquiring the rights of
the child object; but acquiring the rights of the child object does not
mean acquiring the rights of the parent object.

3. All new users have the network management data monitor function
by default.

The Authority Distribution Example

As shown in Figure 10-2, the domain limited user A is bound with the EPON
operation group, north town object group and the south town user group. The south
town user group is bound with the GPON operation group and the south town object
group.

Figure 10-2 The Authority Distribution Example

There are two operation groups, two object groups and one user group in
Figure 10-2.

10-4 Version: A
10 Security Management

u Two operation groups: the EPON operation group and the GPON operation
group, which includes the general EPON central office end service
management operation rights and the GPON equipment management
operation rights respectively.

u Two object groups: the north town object group and the south town object
group, which have the operations rights on the north town objects and the south
town objects respectively.

u One user group: the south town user group, which has the GPON operation
group authority on the south town object group.

The domain-based authorities of user A are:

u For the objects in the north town object group, user A has the operation rights
of the EPON operation group, namely the general EPON central office end
service management operation rights.

u For the objects in the south town object group, user A has the operation rights
of the GPON operation group, namely the GPON equipment management
operation rights.

Caution:

The user A cannot perform the operations within the GPON operation
group to the north town object group, and also cannot perform the
operations within the EPON operation group to the south town object
group.

GUI Display

The ANM2000 supports the domain division management function on the object
tree displaying:

u For the domain management user, the systems and the cards that are not
managed by it will not be displayed in the object tree tab.

u Filters the nodes that are not within the management range when displaying the
alarm LEDs; and marks them with special icons. The filtering is usually
performed on the modules or the objects of higher levels. For the card objects,
the filtering is only performed on the EC2 card or the card with remote module.

Version: A 10-5
e-Fim ANM2000 Broadband Access Network Management System Operation Guide (Based on Windows)

u Filters the nodes that need not be displayed when generating the object tree,
including the object tree in the main GUI and in the other operation GUIs, such
as configuration data uploading / downloading, physical configuration
inspection and performance gathering.

The ANM2000 supports the authority division management function on the menu
control displaying:

u Object menu: The domain limited user cannot access the logical domain. Only
when users have complete rights on the higher-level users can they add /
delete lower-level objects or reset card type; only when users have rights on
the objects whose levels are higher than the module can users check the
physical configuration.

u Main menu: The domain limited user cannot perform the operations such as
forcibly saving, importing and exporting. They cannot perform the user
management, domain management and command authority management
(which can be executed by the member of the system management user group
only) either.

u Filters the main menu and the object menu options (including checking physical
configuration, adding / deleting / importing / exporting logical domain, and
saving forcibly) according to the domain authorities filtering.

4 Checking physical configuration: Only when the user has rights on the
module or higher-level objects can he / she check the physical
configuration.

4 Basic operations on the objects of each level: Only when the user has
rights on all the lower-level objects of the selected object can he / she add /
delete the lower-level objects.

u The operation of log viewing requires the member of the system management
user group and other system users. The non-system management group users
can only view their own logs.

u Only the users with authority on the system can set the performance gathering
scheme.

Appendix A Dual NIC Setting

The ANM2000 adopts the dual NIC mode. In this mode, different IP addresses are
used to run the database and manage the equipment.

u Equipment network card (device network card): Used for the communication
between the ANM2000 and the equipment.

u Database network card (tcpip network card): Used for the communication
among the ANM2000, the database and the network management system.

Below are two methods to isolate two network cards.

u Physical isolation: Connects two network cards respectively with two unrelated
HUBs or switches.

u Logical isolation: Connects two network cards to the same switch and sets two
or multiple VLANs for their isolation.

Compared with the single NIC mode, the dual NIC mode has the following
advantages:

u When the network management system connects with different devices, users
do not need to modify the IP address of the computer. This can avoid paralysis
of the ANM2000 caused by wrong modifications of the IP address.

u The system separates the communication signals between the network

management system and the local network and the communication signals
between various network management systems at the egress of the network
management system, so as to avoid the interference between the two types of
signals.

Note:

VLAN is the virtual local area network and sets various network
segments (or smaller LANs) logically for the LAN equipment, so as to
implement the data switch between virtual workgroups (units).

Below is the introduction of the setting of the dual NIC mode.
