ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experience’s
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

Competency 1: I created learning opportunities that allowed students to construct meaning in their lives by critically thinking about the world around them and making
connections to what they have been learning in class.
Competency 2: I communicated appropriately, clearly and effectively in various contexts related to teaching.
Competency 3: I used backwards design for learning to design lessons that had clear objectives and targeted subject specified competencies.
Competency 4: I developed and implemented lesson plans targeting specific student needs. I provided support in areas of need to assure that each student was given
an equal chance at succeeding in their learning.
Competency 5: I used diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to evaluate student understanding. However, I also used these evaluation tools as a way to
inform and adjust my teaching.
Competency 6: I worked towards building strategies that would help me maintain a positive and effective classroom management.
Competency 8: I incorporated technology in the classroom through varied learning opportunities and I used this time to emphasize the importance of digital citizenship.
Competency 9: I believe in the promotion of personal growth through diverse learning opportunities. I participated in extracurricular activities such as the play, cheer
leading, the environmental club and projects to help the community.
Competency 10: I cooperated with a variety of members of the teaching team in an affective manner, taking into account my students' needs.

individualized education plans designed for my students.
Competency 11: I need to improve on engaging in professional development individually and with
others.
Competency 12: I need to work on developing a stronger core of values that will guide my teaching
profession to justify the choices that I make in my classroom and in my teaching.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:


I will set personal objectives that I will work on during the week and evaluate my progress as my field
experience advances. In regards to working with the resource team, I will initiate regular communication with
the resource teacher to become familiar with students' individualized education plans to assure that I am
meeting their academic, social and emotional needs. I also want to expand my library of resources by attending
varied workshops where I can learn about different strategies to help meet the individual needs of my students.
In regards to improving my professional development, I will continue to attend workshops and lectures to seek
new information and strategies that I can use to improve my teaching in the classroom. I will also continue to
seek support and guidance from my cooperating teacher and take time to reflect on my practices. Lastly, I will
continue to reflect on my values as a professional in the education field to feel confident in the choices that
I make during my teaching practice.
