FAP PANEL

BREAKABLE FIRE ACCESS PANEL VS. WINDOW

As a fire access strategy either a windows system needs to

be integrated into the façade, so that a terminated
amount of windows within a specific range are openable
from the outside.
This means, that an additional transom needs to be
introduced on a height of 900 mm.

Alternatively - instead of being openable - these panels

can be fixed panels, marked with a signage notifying about
the position of the unit. In case of an emergency the
firemen will be able to localize the unit and destroy the
glass with an axe.
In this case both panels have to be monolithic fully
tempered glass, without a PVB layer or similar.

Then a rescue or other support can be operated through

such a FAP (Fire access panel) just like with a window.

Note: Client decided to use Breakable Fire Access

Panels as the emergency strategy.

BREAKABLE FIRE ACCESS PANEL

For a Breakable Fire Access Panel, it is

essential not to use laminated safety
glass. Safety glass (Heat strengthened or
fully toughened) is required, but a
lamination will add extra difficulty for
firefighters to access such a panel and
therefore is not allowed by code.
A Signage will mark these panels to
indicate the right location in case of
access or evacuation.

NOTE: Locations of FAPs are to be

defined by the architect in accordance
with local code.
