President Donald Trump and Governor Rick Scott were briefed on the shooting.[5] Trump offered his prayers and
condolences to the victims’ families, writing that "no child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an
American school".[25][26] Scott ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff.[27]

The suspect was originally misreported as "Nicolas de Jesus Cruz," however officials have stated that individual is not
the same as the suspect, noting the suspect's birthday is in September 1998, while the other individual's birthday is in
May 1998.[20]
