• T20 World Cup for the Blind-2017


o PM conveys his best wishes all the participants of T20 World Cup for
the Blind-2017.
o The T20 World Cup will showcase quality sporting talent among the
players & will popularise cricket among blind persons.
o The matches will be played at Delhi, Mumbai, Faridabad, Pune,
Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Kochi, Anantapur, Ahmadabad,
Indore, Bhubaneswar with the finals being played in Bengaluru.
• PV Sindhu wins Syed Modi championship
o P.V. Sindhu has won the $120000 Syed Modi International badminton
championship.
o Sindhu had come close to winning the trophy in 2014, but suffered a
loss against compatriot Saina Nehwal
o The tournament was the 2nd grand prix's badminton tournament of
the 2017 BWF Grand Prix Gold and Grand Prix.
o The tournament was held at the Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in
Lucknow from Jan 24-29
• Federer grabs 18th Grand Slam title
o Federer won his Men's singles final match at the Australian Open,
Melbourne, against Spain's Rafael Nadal.
o As the Fed and Rafa met up on Sunday in Melbourne for the 35th time
in a glorious rivalry which has seen 9 Grand Slam finals now, the Swiss

belied his past record against his Spaniard nemesis and bagged his
18th Grand Slam title and 5th Australian Open trophy.
• Oldest woman to reach Aus Open semifinal
o Venus Williams,36, becomes oldest Grand Slam semi finalist in 23
years. This is Venus Williams first semi final at the Australian Open in
14 years. Venus Williams continued her astonishing late-career revival
by felling Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4 7-6(3) on Tuesday.
• Saina wins Malaysia badminton title
o Saina Nehwal is back to her winning ways after recovering from a
career-threatening knee injury suffered during Rio Olympics.
o The Indian badminton ace beat Thailand teenager Pornpawee
Chochuwong 22-20, 22-20 in the final of the Malaysia Masters Grand
o Doubts were raised on Saina’s future after her early exit from Rio.
• Mahrez is African Footballer of the Year
o Algeria forward Riyad Mahrez has won the Confederation of African
Football's player of the year award.
o He was chosen ahead of 2015 winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of
Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool's Sadio Mane.
o Arsenal and Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi won the young player award.
o Sixteen players have won African football most prestigious individual
award since its inauguration in 1992.
• David Warner Achieves Rare Test Feat
o Australia David Warner became the fifth batsman to hit a century
before lunch on the opening day of a Test match against Pakistan.
o He reached three figures off 78 balls as the Australia took control of the
third Test match.
o He was out for 113 and became the first batsman to hit a century in the
opening session of a Test in Australia.

o He reached his hundred four minutes before lunch.
• Cyclist Robert Marchand Sets New Record
o Super senior citizen Robert Marchand has set a new world record in
cycling at 105 years.
o The Frenchman set the record for a man of that age to ride 22.547
kilometres in one hour.
o He broke the record set by himself five years ago for a person aged over
100 pedalling the furthest distance in an hour.
o The current men's hour record is held by the UK's Bradley Wiggins -
54.526km.
• India Win SAFF Women's Championship
o India defeated Bangladesh by 3-1 to win their fourth consecutive South
Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women's Football Championship
title in Siliguri.
o In the process, the Indian eves are now unbeaten in 19 matches having
won 18 and drawn one.
o This was Bangladesh's maiden final appearance in the championship.
o For India, the goals were scored by Dangmei Grace, Sasmita Malik and
Indumathi.
• Nadal Wins Mubadala Tennis Championships
o Spanish tennis veteran Rafael Nadal defeated Belgian David Goffin 6-4,
7-6 to win the Mubadala World Tennis Championships.
o Nadal defeated his opponent David Goffin with 6-4, 7-6 in the finals.
o He reached the Abu Dhabi Finals by beating Tomas Berdych in the
quarter-final and Milos Raonic in the semi-final. adal who received a
cash prize of $250,000.

• Somdev Devvarman Announces Retirement
o India's star singles player Somdev Devvarman announced his
retirement from professional tennis.
o Somdev touched a career-high rank of number 62 in 2011.
o He has two runners-up finishes on the ATP World Tour as his best
performances on the Tour.
o He made the finals of Chennai and Johannesburg ATP events.
o Somdev also won Singles and Doubles medals in Asian Games and
Commonwealth Games.

February 2017

• Saina to represent Olympic Committee


o Saina Nehwal was appointed as a member of the Olympic Committee's
Athletes' Commission in 2016, will represent the panel in the Saina
would join the Badminton World Federation Athletes' Commissionas a
representative of the IOC AC.
o Currently, ranked world number 10 in BWF rankings, Saina is now
aiming to win the prestigious All England Championship in March
2017.
• Asian Para-Road Cycling C'ship
o India made a rousing start at the 6th Asian Para-Road Cycling
Championship, bagging all three medals in the 12.8 Km Individual
Time Trial on the opening day of the tournament at Bahrain.
o Abhishek from Chandigarh won the gold medal, Divij Shah from West
Bengal won silver and Harinder Singh from BSF bagged the bronze
medal.
o They were trained and sponsored by Aditya Mehta Foundation,
Hyderabad.

• Pooja Ghatkar clinches bronze
o In International Shooting Sport Federation, Indian shooter Pooja
Ghatkar secured India‘s first medal in New Delhi.
o She finished third in the 10m Air Rifle event. Ghatkar clinched bronze
medal with a score of 228.8 in the final round.
o China‘s Mengyao Shi secured gold with a score of 252.1 - setting a new
world record in the event.
o The silver went to China‘s Lijie Dong for a score of 248.9.
• International Hockey Federation awards
o Belgium skipper John-John Dohmen and Netherlands‘ Naomi van As
were adjudged the international hockey federation male & female
Player of the Year.
o There were 2 Indians in the fray with Sreejesh among nominees for the
best goalkeeper while 20-year-old Harmanpreet Singh, who was part of
the junior World Cup-winning squad, a nominee of Rising Star of the
Year‘ category.
• India gets 2019 Combined WC for shooting
o India will be hosting the Combined World Cup for shooting in 2019, a
qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
o The National Rifle Association of India's (NRAI) bid was approved by
the International Shooting Sport Federation's Executive Board in its
meeting held in New Delhi.
o Combined World Cup comprises all the three categories -shotgun, rifle
and pistol.

• Sandeep Kumar breaks his record

o Sandeep Kumar of Haryana smashed his own national record en route
to winning the gold medal in the gruelling men‘s 50km event.
o He clocked 3 hours 55 minutes and 59.05 seconds in a brilliant
performance to win the race and qualify for the London World
Championships in August.
o His earlier record was 3:56:22 in May 2014.
• India wins T20 Blind World Cup 2017
o India beat Pakistan by 9-wickets to win T20 Blind World Cup at
Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
o Successfully defending their title in the T20 Blind World Cup, India
achieved the victory target of 198-runs in the 18th over in the final of
the tournament
o India had beaten Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the semifinal, while
Pakistan defeated England by 147 runs.
• Ashwin breaks Dennis Lilees record
o Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin created the record of
claiming 250 Test wickets in the least number of matches in his 45th
test.
o He broke the record of legendary Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee
who reached 250 tests in his 48th test.
o He is the sixth Indian bowler after Anil Kumble , Kapil Dev , Harbhajan
Singh , Zaheer Khan ,Bishan Singh Bedi to reach to 250 Test wickets.
• Haryana wins Kabaddi Championship
o Haryana won the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Memorial All India
National Style Kabaddi Championship defeating Indian Railway.
o Chief Minister Manohar Lal awarded one crore rupee first prize to the
winner team and 50 lakh rupees award to the first runner up team.

o Government has launched national championships of traditional sports
Kabaddi and Wrestling to promote these sports.
• National Badminton championship
o Sourabh Verma clinched the Men‘s Singles title defeating Lakshya Sen
in the 81st Senior National Badminton Championships tournament
played in Patna.
o Rituparna Das claimed the Women's Singles title defeating Reshma.
o In the mixed doubles, the duo of Satwik Sai Raj and Maneesha K won
the title.

April 2017
• Gurusaidutt wins Bulgarian Tournament
o Commonwealth Games bronze medallist RMV Gurusaidutt won the
men’s singles title at the Bulgarian International Future Series
Badminton tournament.
o In the final match, Gurusaidutt defeated Muhammed Ali Kurt of Turkey
o He will now play Senior Nationals Championship in November 2017.
• ‘Oorja’ Talent Hunt Tournament-2017
o The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been tasked to conduct
‘Oorja’, - CAPFs Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament – 2017.
o CAPFs will be jointly organizing the tournament under the aegis of All
India Police Sports Control Board throughout the country from May 1-15,
2017.
o It is being used to generate interest regarding football in the country.
• India wins 6 medals
o India won six medals in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletics
Meet in Jiaxing, China

o India had won seven medals, including a gold and 4 silver in the first leg
on April 24.
o The third leg will be held in the Chinese Taipei on April 30.
• First transgender athletic meet
o Kerala has conducted the country’s first-ever transgender one-day athletic
meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
o The event saw the participation of 132 participants belonging to 12
districts of the state.
o The event was jointly organised by Kerala sports council and Sexual
Gender Minority Federation of Kerala.
• Yashwanth is man of the tournament
o Yashwanth Naidu from Andhra Pradesh was declared Man of the
Tournament in the T-20 Asia Cup held recently at Dhaka, Bangladesh.
o In the triangular tournament, India beat Bangladesh and Pakistan in the
Asia Cup to lift the Trophy.
• Video Assistant Referees
o Video assistant referees will be used at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
o The Video Assistant Referee system was first introduced at the FIFA Club
World Cup in December 2016.
o The technology can be used to review major incidents such as goals,
penalties, red cards and cases of mistaken identity.
• Nita Ambani made member of IOC
o Nita Ambani, who became India's first woman International Olympic
Committee member last year, has now been made a member of two
important commissions of the global sports governing body, including the
prestigious Olympic channel and the Olympic education Commission.
o Ambani would be one of the 16 members of the Olympic Channel
Commission.

o It is based in Madrid, Spain.
• Mann Kaur sets world record
o Mann Kaur broke her world record to clinch gold in 100m at the World
Masters Games -- considered the Olympics for veterans --- in Auckland,
New Zealand.
o She completed the race in 1 minute and 14 seconds.
o Mann Kaur made headlines last year when she become the world’s fastest
centenarian by clinching gold in 100m at the American Masters Games in
Vancouver with a time of 1 minute 21 seconds.
• Manpreet Kaur bags Gold
o Indian shot putter Manpreet Kaur clinched a gold in the first leg of the
Asian Grand Prix Athletics.
o With this performance, Manpreet also qualified for the IAAF World
Championships to be held in August in London.
o India ended the one-day event with seven medals (1 gold, 4 silver, 2
bronze).
• Haryana beats Kerala
o Haryana beat arch rivals Kerala after six years to win the team
championship at the National Youth Athletics Meet.
o Haryana emerged champions with 166.5 points. Kerala has finished as the
runners-up.
o However, Kerala managed to retain the team crown for girls while
Haryana boys topped and won the boys’ title.

• Fastest batsman to score 7000 runs.

o South African opener Hashim Amla has become the fastest batsman to
score 7000 runs in ODI cricket.
o He reached this milestone in his 150th innings.
o He also holds the record for fastest to reach 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and
6000 ODI runs.
o The record for the fastest 7000 ODI runs was earlier held by Virat Kohli.
• Borussia wins German Cup.
o Borussia Dortmund won the 2017 German Cup beating Frankfurt 2-1.
o It is the fourth title of Borussia Dortmund.
o Dortmund had already earned automatic qualification for the group stage
of the 2017 UEFA Champions League through position in the Bundesliga.
o It is one of the most successful clubs in German football history.
• Sebastian Vettel wins Monaco Grand Prix.
o Sebastian Vettel won Monaco Grand Prix to extend his championship lead
over Lewis Hamilton to 25 points.
o Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished 2nd while Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo
clinched the third spot.
o Lewis Hamilton finished seventh after a difficult race from 13th on the
grid.
o Sebastian Vettel is from Germany and drives for Ferrari. He is a four time
F1 World Champion.
• World Table Tennis Championships
o The 2017 World Table Tennis Championships is being held in Düsseldorf,
Germany, from 29 May to 5 June 2017.
o Top-ranked Indian in the world, Achanta Sharath Kamal will lead the 8-
member Indian squad.

o The decision to host the event in Düsseldorf was announced by the ITTF in
April 2015. It s the 54th edition of the competition, and the 7th time that it
has been staged in Germany.
• Premier Futsal semifinal & final
o Premier Futsal will host the two semifinals and the grand finale of the
event's second season in Dubai, making it the second Indian sporting
event to go global after IPL.
o In order to host the three marquee matches, it has collaborated with Dubai
Sports Council.
o Premier Futsal is an Indian franchise -based league takes place across
Chennai and Goa in India from July 15 to July 24.
• Arsenal wins FA Cup.
o Arsenal defeated Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup title.
o This was Arsenal's 13th FA Cup title, the most by any team and 20th
appearance in an FA Cup final.
o Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey scored in the 4th and the 79th minute
respectively.
o Arsène Wenger is the Manager of Arsenal FC
• International Cricketer of the Year
o India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has won the coveted International
Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT Cricket Rating International
awards 2017.
o Ashwin played a crucial role during the home season, where India won 10
of their 13 Tests played against Nz, Eng,Bangladesh and Australia.
o Ashwin has taken 99 wickets in the past 12 months.
o Ashwin had to miss IPL 2017 due to hernia injury.
• 1st Amputee to swim across Red Sea.

o Egyptian swimmer Omar Hegazy has become the first amputee to swim
across Red Sea’s 20 kilometer Aqaba Gulf from Egypt to Jordan.
o Hegazy, a 26 year-old banker who lost his left leg in a motorcycle accident.
o Aqaba Gulf is a large gulf at the northern tip of the Red Sea. Its coastline is
divided between four countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
• Sweden wins ice hockey world title.
o Sweden won the 2017 Ice Hockey World Championship by defeating
Canada in a dramatic penalty shootout.
o Sweden were twice on target in the shootout, while the Canadians failed to
score.
o It is Sweden's 10th world title.
o Sweden won the gold while Canadians had to settle for silver. Russia by
defeating Finland was able to clinch to bronze medal.
• India win all 10 gold medals in TT
o India won all 10 gold medals on offer at the South Asian Junior Table
Tennis Championships at Mount Lavinia near Colombo, Sri Lanka.
o In Junior Boys, India first beat Pakistan and followed it up with another
identical win over the hosts Sri Lanka.
o In the junior girls category, India won gold medals as well.
o In all India won 14 medals.

June 2017

• Dhanaraj Pillay to get Bharat Gaurav


o Former India hockey captain Dhanraj Pillay will be awarded with East
Bengal football club’s highest honour "Bharat Gaurav" on their foundation
day.
o He played a huge role in reviving the Indian team and performed
brilliantly during his 15-year career.

o He also received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award for his performance
in 1999-2000 and was awarded Padma Shri and civilian award in 2000.
• 1st Indian to complete solo RAAM
o Srinivas Gokulnath created history by becoming the first Indian to
complete 4,900-km Race Across America in solo category.
o He finished the distance of 3070 miles in 11 days and 18 hours in the 18-49
age category. The time given was 12 days to complete the race, that is 13
hours earlier than the scheduled time.
o He completed the race from West coast to East coast of the US in his
2nd attempt.
• Yashaswini bags gold in 10m air pistol
o Yashaswini Deswal created history by winning the 10m Air Pistol gold
medal equalling the junior world record score of 235.9 in the final of the
ISSF Junior World Championship.
o She eliminated Korean shooter Woori Kim for the gold medal.
o Her gold medal made sure India were No.2 on the points table with two
gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
• Indian boxers shine at Ulaanbaatar Cup
o Ankush Dahiya clinched a gold while L Devendro Singh settled for a silver
medal on the final day of the Ulaanbaatar Cup boxing tournament in
Mongolia.
o Ankush defeated Korean Man Choe Chol in a split verdict while Devendro
lost to Indonesia's Aldoms Suguro in a split decision.
o India thus signed off with a gold, a silver and three bronze medals from
the tournament.
• Federer wins ninth Halle title
o World number five Roger Federer defeated Alexander Zverev 6-1 6-3 to
clinch a record ninth Halle Open title.

o Federer saved the only break point he faced and converted four of his eight
opportunities to clinch his 92nd career title.
o The victory gives Federer his ninth Halle crown, joining Rafael Nadal as
the only two men in the Open Era who have won a tournament more than
eight times.
• Srikanth wins Australian Open
o Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated Olympic champion Chen Long
to win the Australia Open Super Series men's singles title.
o This is his 2nd consecutive Super Series title after he won the Indonesia
Open Super Series crown.
o This is his first win over Chen Long in six meetings.
o Badminton Association of India announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for
Srikanth after he lifted the title.
• Test Status to Afghanistan and Ireland
o International Cricket Council during its annual conference in
London confirmed Afghanistan and Ireland as Full Member of ICC thereby
granting them Test status.
o Ireland and Afghanistan have been playing as associate members since
1993 and 2013, respectively.
o The move takes the number of Test-playing nations from 10 to 12.
o They are the first to receive Test status since Bangladesh in 2000.
• Indian Wushu Team bags six medals
o India won 6 medals in Wushu competition of the 1st ever BRICS Games,
which were held in China.
o The medals haul comprised 2 each in gold, silver and bronze.
o M. Gyandas and Anjul Namdev won a gold each while 2 silver medals
came through Bidheswari Devi and Toshibala.

o It featured some 300 athletes from 5 countries with 10 events in 3 sports -
men's basketball, women's volleyball and Wushu.
• Pakistan wins Champions Trophy title
o Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy cricket final after beating arch-
rivals India by 180 runs at the Oval ground in Britain's capital, London.
o With the win, Pakistan won their first Champions Trophy to add to their
1992 World Cup and 2009 World T20 wins.
o Pakistan had come into the tournament as the lowest-ranked team and
lost heavily to India in its opening group match.
• India's biggest win over Pakistan
o India demolished Pakistan 7-1 to register their third consecutive victory
and seal a place in the quarter-finals of the Hockey World League Semi-
Final.
o This was India's biggest over Pakistan, bettering the 7-4 effort against
arch-rivals in 2003 Champions Trophy and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
o This was India's 56th win over Pakistan in the 168th match between the
two nations.

July 2017

• Indian shuttlers wins gold in Lagos


o Indian shuttler C Rahul Yadav and men's doubles pair of Manu Attri and B
Sumeeth Reddy clinched the men's singles and men's doubles title at
Lagos International challenge in Nigeria.
o In the doubles, Manu and Sumeeth defeated local pair of Godwin Olofua
and Anouluwapo Juwon Opeyori 21-13 21-15.
o 19-year-old Yadav defeated compatriot Karan Rajan Rajarajan 21-15, 21-13
in the men's singles final

• Indian boxers at Czech Boxing Tournament
o Indian boxers clinched 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal at the 48th
Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem in the Czech Republic.
o World Championships bronze-medallist Shiva Thapa, former
Commonwealth Games gold-medallist Manoj Kumar, Amit Phangal,
Gaurav Bidhuri and Satish Kumar claimed gold medals.
o Kavinder Bisht in 52 kg and Manish Panwar in 81 kg settled for silver
medals.
• Ultimate Table Tennis champions
o Falcons TTC emerged champions of the inaugural Ultimate Table Tennis,
the country’s newest franchise sports league.
o They beat Shaze Challengers.
o Li Ping put Shaze Challengers ahead with a 2-1 win over Sanil Shetty in
men’s singles, the opening match of the tie.
• Katerina Siniakova wins Swedish Open
o Caroline Wozniacki struggled with injury as she lost the Swedish Open
final to Katerina Siniakova.
o Siniakova was playing in the Swedish Open final for the second year in a
row after losing last year to German Laura Siegemund.
o The 2017 Swedish Open was the 9th edition in women's category.
• India bags 24 medals in Jordan
o India have bagged 24 medals at the Jordan Junior and Cadet Open table
tennis tournament.
o The tally includes 7 Gold, 7 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. In the event held
at Amman, India ended as the second best finishers.
o The team title was denied to India in the cadet section when Payas,
Yashansh Malik and Chinmaya Somaiya were defeaed by Hsu Po-Hsuan,
Lin Yen-Cun & Peng Chih who claimed gold.

• Vettel wins Hungarian Grand Prix
o Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel has extended his world championship lead with
victory in the Hungarian GP ahead of Kimi Raikkonen & Valtteri Bottas.
o This is his 4th win of the season and 46th of his F1 career. It was also
Ferrari's first one-two in Hungary since 2004.
o With this win, Vettel will take a 14-point lead over Hamilton into the
summer break at the head of the Drivers' Championship.
• 3 gold medals in one night
o Caeleb Dressel of US became the 1st swimmer to win 3 gold medals in a
single evening at the world championships.
o He started with a victory in 50m freestyle, nearly broke Phelps' record in
100 butterfly & led US quartet in a world-record rout in 4x100m mixed
relay.
o He now has 6 gold medals in the championships, putting him in position
to tie Phelps' record of 7 at 2007 worlds in Melbourne.
• India wins FIBA Women's Asia Cup
o Indian women's basketball team defeated Kazakhstan 75-73 in finals of
FIBA Asia Cup 2017 held in Bengaluru.
o Both the undefeated league teams meet in finals for the first time in the
tournament.
o With this win India are now promoted to Division A for the next edition of
FIBA Women's Asia Cup.
o Basketball Federation of India president Govindaraj announced a cash
prize of 10 lakh for the squad.
• India finishes 6th in junior squash
o India finished sixth overall in the girls team event of the 2017 WSF-World
junior squash championship in Tauranga, New Zealand.
o In the match for the 5th-6th positions, India went down to USA 1-2.

o There was a slight improvement in the rankings this time as India had
finished eighth in the last edition at the Netherlands.
• Lovepreet Singh wins bronze
o India’s Lovepreet Singh has won bronze medal in Asian Youth and Junior
Weightlifting Championships at Kathmandu.
o He got third place in 105 kg men junior category. Lovepreet lifted 151 kgs
in snatch and 180 kgs in clean and jerk to clinch the bronze medal.
o This is India’s fourth medal in the championships.

August 2017

• India lift SAFF Under-15 Championship


o Lalrokima and Vikram struck in the second half to guide India to SAFF
Under-15 Championship title win as India beat Nepal.
o The India team, which had players from AIFF's Regional Academy, trailed
by a goal at the interval but Lalrokima and Vikram's timely strikes saved
the day for India.
o The match was held in Kathmandu.
• World Badminton Championships 2017
o Denmark's Viktor Axelsen defeated Lin Dan in straight games to claim the
men's singles gold at the World Championships in Glasgow.
o Axelsen is the third Dane to claim the men's singles crown.
o Flemming Delfs won the inaugural 1977 title and Peter Rasmussen was a
winner, also in Glasgow, 20 years ago.
• PV Sindhu wins silver
o PV Sindhu won the silver medal at the 2017 World Championship. She was
defeated by Nozomi Okuhara of Japan.
o Nozomi became the first Japanese women's singles champion while
Sindhu is the second Indian after Saina to secure silver.

o The summit clash lasted an unbelievable and incredible one hour and 50
minutes.
• Lewis Hamilton wins Belgian GP
